good morning,

2 reasons for this new thread (it is no replacement for my own):

1) Some days ago started bearlee a thread about Memorial Day/D-Day.

It was really interesing, that many people took their time, to write long textes, many of them wonderful to read, it was obvious that they took time to prepare.

So I supposed there is a little need to have sometimes little serious moments before we return for fun.

Mens, it is not my interest to move this thread to the general board, but maybe it is good, to have a little serious moment to reflect before we return to business.

Let us see if it works.

I don't know, I think it would help if you linked it in your signature line so it shows up on all your posts. You'll have a better chance of getting people to respond to it.

Anyway, it may work here instead of the general board, but keep in mind this is the AmPic board so without pictures of any kind, well, hard to say how it'll work out. Give it a shot. By the way, it's getting kinda late at night here.

I know, befopre I link it to my sig, I want to see how it works, b/c it is no general replacement for my regular thread.

You can have 'em both linked-one doesn't have to replace the other

u may, in the moment I think about the general direction, just for me I have tons of ideas (should a not-native english speaking person stay away from this thread).

Or a more general subject, how well americans about the mad stuff in Iraq (pictures from the prison) etc.

and my eternal mission "why like so many americans the death-penalty".

in a way, I am so sure, that the list of my "enemies" will just get longer and longer.

You do pick some subjects that people are passionate about.

Maybe if I answered a question with a question.

If I were to go to a newspaper in Germany and pick out all the bad things that happened today in your country and imediatly Think that Weenie must do bad things he lives in Germany.
What would your answer be?

As a caring person I have never enjoyed someone being Abused ..exploited... not in America not in Iraq and not in Germany.

The death penalty-because it works. Not going to get into a long discussion about this though because there is no answer. In theory, it is to deter so if we execute muderers, that is what is supposed to happen. If in fact it has no deterrent effect, then we have executed murderers and certainly have deterred them. If there is as deterrent effect, then we have deterred others from murdering innocent victims.

Of the 358 verifiable executions in 2003, 89 were by lethal injection, 64 of those in this country(we had one electrocution), probably the most humane form of execution while around the world 54 people were beheaded, 100 hanged and 114 shot. But consider another form of execution 20 years earlier. Death as a result of terrorist acts in 1983 actually exceed this number and that was 20 years ago. That doesn't count the tens of thousands of people killed in takeovers of countries, etc. over the years.

Some people complain about financial costs of housing prisoners for life. The averge cost in 2003 in California was about $26,000 per inmate, but that's only one portion of the cost. There is an additional financial burden on the government many times for the inmates family, their own financial and emotional cost and so the idea that a capital case costs more than housing a prisoner for life doesn't really work out that way when ALL costs are taken into consideration.

Problem is Weenie, none of this stuff matters. People that favor it will continue to do so and those that oppose it will continue to do so. It would seem to me the debate has gone on for such a long time that people pretty much have their minds made up on the issue.

good idea, you would encounter a problem: in Germany, the ppl r not happy with their gov. For financial reasons they did many social cuts. Of course, it is for example still easier in Germany to be unemmployed that in US.

Germany has many debts, most of them caused by a former government (similar to the Republicans).

The ruling party had the bad luck to do unpopular things. Their earn: The loss of the leadership. Then will the party return who caused the stress.

let me reply later. At 4 am is my brain not in operating mood. Just that: what does the USA for the cases where ppl have been executed, burt years later: were proofs fond that the person ws not guilty.

I think resurrection is also in your country not possible.

A person told me about that "shit can happen". Right, but is this the right way.

I also got told, that the idea of killing ppl by law is the Bilble "Eye for an eye". ok, the US claim to trust the Bilble in that. But I dont understand, that the six federal states without execution, has not more or less murderes.

I also dont understnad that most ppl in the death-row are black, I saw in tv, that such ppl can not afford a good lawyer.

I understand that it is "cheaper" to kill a person that to keep him long time in jail /(leds to another question soon).

But is it human to let him wait 10 or 12 years for the "revenge" thru killing?

later more, need to "calm down". Then I add something.

Yet another Attempt to be serious

Ok this one is about politics since Weenie seems to like this topic.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
OLD VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
CBS, NBC, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Tom Daschle &John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."

Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act," retroactive to the beginning! of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

I am back, but in the moment not so capable to run this serious thread. I also think a little bit aobut a reluanch in some time. "Weenie tries to understand americans" -or something in that way-

lets end :)

ok, I end this thread. The reason is simple: the idea for that thread failed and in combination with the hostilities by a sweet group of people.

I still like the idea, but I will try a relaunch at a different place. And yes, I will ask a friend to open the thread. So that the poor sensitives are not shocked by the owners name.

Probably a good idea. That's what I was trying to tell you before. A thread like this is better suited for the General Board. Different people go to different boards for different things-here pics, there more general discussion. These kinds of threads can work here but generally themed to an event or holiday and are limited in duration.

Now this perceived hostility-you're guilty of it yourself by what you continue to post-time to move on Weenie and forget this group of people whoever they are and get a little more perky.

;) qwll bearlee, where is your thread for the 4th july????

and what means "perky"? -just to understand??-

the chapter "friends" is closed. The only bad taste remaining, is the unlogical thing, that I was accuseed to hurt a sensitive woman. Bt noone noticed many of her postings about me. Which were more a kind of teasing, but sometimes a little bit tough. So that I wondered, why for me was "beeing sensitive" not granted.

And the final thing was, when I asked a sweet person to hwlp me about, this person was influenced in a not so good way. Just to make sure that I get no "support".

But when I see the persons who still post to my threads, I am extremly sure, that there are enough of tolerant people around. And I think every community needs a kindergarten, or?

Well, I guess by perky I meant more upbeat instead of the doom, gloom, I'm going to kill myself stuff. It's kinda hard for people to enjoy that and I think most people come here for enjoyment. Plus, you kinda did it again.

Don't think I'll be doing a July 4th thread. That one really is pretty unique to the United States. May post a pic on Dawn's thread related to it, but not a whole thread. The one that included D-Day was one that covers alot more than this country even though it started as a Memorial Day thread.

Now, maybe, just maybe, you're being a bit intolerant of those you perceive to be intolerant-okay, off to kindergarten for me:D

well, it depends on many things. I always prefer to talk about "problems". It prevents wrong concusions. I agree that someone can get the impression that I am in such situations a little bit noosy.

As I told, noone can be everyone darling, but there r for sure many ways to postulate a own point of view. And I think, to use personal influence to persuade a person to dislike something is the wrong way.

Also like the way to post bs and end such postings "dont reply I put u on igmnore now".

But back to the funny things.;)
