Someone gave me this website awhile ago and I finally got around to looking at it today. It is for Valley of the Kings Sanctuary for animals such as lions, tigers, cougars, leopards, jaguars, etc.

I know I'm not the only cat lover on the board. Check it out. :)

Thanks, C

I love big cats. Don't laugh (well, OK, go ahead) but when I was like 5 or 6 I wanted to get a pet mountain Lion. I thought I could buy one at a flea market.... in Hustisford of all places...... :D My parents said if I found one I could buy it..........

Those big cats are too tempting. I always just want to reach through the glass and pet their shiny coats, even if it would cost me an arm...

Very nice... Thank you for sharing that. I love tigers... Especially Golden Bengals.

There isn't any glass around these big cats. They are still wild animals, but they are in cages where you can feed them by hand! This place is within driving distance for me so I will likely join and check it out with a visit.

I love big kitties! White tigers, snow leopards, and black panthers are my favorite. I always wanted one myself, still do :D

I used to have the addy to a big cat sanctuary site that had recordings of a bunch of the different species they had on site. I down loaded four or five of them and would turn the volume up so they could be heard clearly, and my cat would go nuts :) Some of them, especially the more plaintive sounding ones, she'd crawl right up to the speakers to hear more of and she'd always start talking back and trying to find the kitties, and some, like the angry roaring would scare her, so we got rid of those. After several reformats, I've long lost the urls though, it was a wonderful site with tons of different species, pics, information and links to other sites.

Damn, K, we're going to wind up meeting one of these days.....:rose:

just wonderful!

just love those big cats and the little ones too! thanks for that link Cheyenne!

WhiteRose mentioned a big cat sanctuary, I'm on a site called care2.com which, among other things, supports and promotes the preservation and protection of big cat habitats, especially for jaguars, tigers and snow leopards, and just a click a day contributes 3.9 acres as a donation from their sponsors, very commendable imho.
long live the fine felines! :)

one of my faves

:(

I would love to join but on my budget I can't afford a membership. Too bad that if you send in a donation you can't be a member. I would be able to donate something every few months, but not all at one time.

;) You never know!

For those that want to contribute but can't afford membership- I'm sure every little bit helps. The only real benefit of membership vs. donations alone that I've been able to find on the website is being able to go visit the cats in person. If you aren't within driving distance of the sanctuary anyway, membership won't mean much. There is also a huge "wish list" of items they need in addition to cash.

Don't worry.
I'm sure the sanctuary would be glad to accept some of your dogs as a donation.

 I think the dogs of the neighborhood are safe.

Actually, they are fed dead cattle from local farmers according to the website. One bid cat eats 150 lbs of meat per day! Doesn't that sound like a lot?

Perhaps a little.
What I think wasn't mentioned was that most zoos and animal parks only feed once every 3-4 days. The rest of the time big cats (especially tigers) will sleep 20 out of 24 hours. This is closer to their natural state. Most big cats in the wild make a kill only every 3-4 days if they're lucky.
