And why not? You are an author, hanging out in the AH, so you are one of us (or is it one of 'them'?).

Just because you like Slytherin doesn't make you un-human, or does it?

Mr. Oggbashan,

That's a question that has been puzzling me, too.

Judging by your posts (contents, number, and length) you appear to be an senior member.

What, exactly is our designation? They or them, what are we?

I may be a senior member by age. In this current incarnation I am now a pensioner. I have had the title 'oggbashan' for nearly 50 years. As Og, King of Bashan I have been dead for thousands of years and I survived Noah's Flood by riding on top of Noah's Ark.

Anyone who participates in the AH with humour and/or has something to say I think should be designated 'one of us' but since we are unmoderated I think you become 'one of us' just by being here.

Your mobile AV qualifies you.

"Them" are usually intruders from the GB who bring their prejudices with them. They can become one of us by participating. Of course we expect some initial deference from newbies but some of the newbies are not 'new' at all, just a different identity.

"Them" is also the designation for AH people used by others. So you can be one of us, and one of 'them' at the same time. Depends on the viewpoint of the person designating the AH.

Welcome to the madhouse. I may be too late with the welcome. You are already inside.

Regards

Og

Your camouflage has been excellent.

I had an impression you'd been here longer than I had and had simply not posted as frequently. I truly thought you were an "old hand" here.

My welcome, then, is belated, but I extend it wholeheartedly. To the extent that such a neophyte here may have that privilege.

Mr. Oggbashan,

Hmmm.

I guess I must be “one of Them” from beyond the General Board.

(I am assuming that AH indicates “Author’s Hangout” and GB indicates “General Board,” and I will never admit how long it took me to puzzle that out!)

I have some proficiency with Bulletin Board’s in general, including this program in particular. However, Literotica’s BB is configured differently than the other one I was accustomed to using. That must be my excuse for any herky-jerky now she knows, now she messes up, with the technical stuff.

I have written some fiction – in a small writer’s email group, where we circulated our stories for criticism amongst (average) 25 writers. When I read a thread by some of the writers here, comparing how many readers, replies, etc. they have, I was shocked!

It may be some time before I can get up my nerve to submit a story.

I do enjoy the boards. Having intended to publish a story when I came here, I came first to the “Author’s Hangout,” to pick up pointers. Instead, I found a lot of entertaining as well as informative people, not at all like I expected — heavy, ponderous discussions about grammatical minutia and psychological character development.

I have recently begun lurking in some of the other Forums about Story Ideas and Discussion, as well.

Meanwhile, on this forum, no one has told me to “Shut the **** up!” — not even politely! Additionally, no one either requested an explanation of, or published a cease and desist order about, my irritating sense of humor.

That’s all I needed to feel at home

Dear Burleygal,

I've been told it, and I've said it to more than one person here. I'd say until you've been told to F**k Off (or thereabouts) you're missing out on a genuine intimacy here.

Bawdy humour is expected, but you have some true wit, so do keep on.

admiringly, Perdita

Now that I think about it, I think someone told me, albeit politely, to f**k off not too long after I started posting.

Ah, well. It's all good :D

Ms Perdita,

Then my usual answer: "Demonstrate what you mean!" is acceptable?

That's comforting.

Congratulations! You are in Gryffindor, the only house that matters (apparently). Brave, bright and a natural at Quidditch, you are top of the class. And, let's face it, a little bit annoying

Yeah, and I have a feeling I know who that might've been. Such a classy choice of words, eh? :D

Lou

P.S. Burley! You are well and truly "one of us", you have a lead role in my opening chapter for the Lit. Olympics, for one thing. :)

Sven is my fave author. I love her stories, especially " The Art of Compromising".

I scored 8.

I was listening to Daniel Radcliffe on Radio One at lunchtime. Jo Wiley did an interview with him; he's a very cool kid. They start shooting for the next film in July!

If anybody would like to hear his interview on Radio 1, go HERE

You are in Ravenclaw house: utterly unremarkable and just sent along to make up the numbers

Typical! :(

Oh!

Thanks?

Should I start studying my sides, or is it a dumb act?

You are commentating on the Opening Ceremony with Liar, so you'd better make sure you know how to hold a mike with finesse. :D

What to say, what to say..? An insult and a compliment in the same sentence!

Thank you, Samuelx, I'm very glad to hear that you like my works. I'll let you off the hook for calling me "Sven".;)
