An open letter to Femininity

Dear Fem:

You have my deepest sympathy for the pain that I know you too must be feeling.

I have been impressed by you from practically the moment you entered my consciousness, when you were so supportive of Vana during a sad event last spring. "Being impressed" turned to awe with your very cool change of life and taking charge of your semi-orphaned godchildren last summer.

The depth of your support for your friend and her family in the current crisis is beyond awe. It’s breathtaking, and beautiful. You have been a lifesaver. I am not religious person but if I were I would declare that, for all you have done this year, not just for Vana but for your own family, you have surely earned an express ticket to whatever rewards may exist after this life.

I know that our hopes for Vana’s full recovery and our selfish desires for her return to us are more sure to be realized because of you. For this also I thank you, in advance.

I don't know you quite as well as Vana, but I'm pretty sure that something I’ve said about her also applies to you, certainly to your recent life, and probably your life going forward: When your life comes to its conclusion, hopefully not less than about 45 years from now, you will be able to look back on a life well and fully lived. You will have no regrets for the things you didn't do.

You are a woman of extraordinary virtue, and I am proud to be able to call myself your friend.
