I think of all the Germans forced out of the Sudetenland and Königsberg (now Kaliningrad) and Danzig (now Gdańsk). Their people fought a war involving an attempt to exterminate Jews (among others) and because they lost, they lost territory and their people had to move.

To marvel that land west of a river is called the West Bank is to achieve a level of geographic insight normally reserved for tracking the migration of the common potato. The trouble with Rob's tidy little lecture is not its grasp of the compass, but its blissful, almost pristine ignorance of history. To suggest that Jordan simply owned this dirt by divine right until the wicked Israelis snatched it in 1967 is to erase the entire farce of the 1948 land grab. Jordan did not inherit the West Bank; they conquered it, annexed it with a grand total of two nations recognizing the claim, and held it by the very same law of the sword you now so piously decry.
