Ireland because I have history there and feel I would become comfortable. Plus I can fight the British Protestants out of Norhtern Ireland on general principle. I enjoy grass roots terrorism.

I'm sure all those working hard for peace in Northern Ireland will welcome you coming over to "fight". Did you enjoy Sept 11 as well, or was that bad terrorism as opposed to the "grass roots" variety?

I don't know. I've never been anywhere outside of N. America, so I have nothing at all to motivate a decision like that.

I would love to say Ireland, because what I have seen from pictures and a few people I talk to who live there, but I would have to actually need to have been to some of these places to get an idea of what each was like to make a choice.

If I had to pick one, I would say Ireland or Italy. (Although I've heard from family how much Italy stinks - literally) I've been raised with a fairly Americanized version of both sides of my heritage and I would love to experience them both in the flesh.

A nightmare decision

Not live in Canada?!?! I can't even imagine such a thing!!

Where would I move instead? Sorry! I don't even want to contemplate such a thing!

I've travelled to many places and spent considerable time in some, each time I return I'm convinced I live in the best place I ever could. Other places have their attractions but for me Canada is and always will be home!!

Requirements

1. White sand
2. Palm trees
3. Warm weather all year long
4. Blue water

If I have those things, I'm sure all the rest will fall into place.

There are palm trees in Ireland, beautiful white sand beach in Dingle, where the water is also blue... and it rarely snows so from I'm from that's considered warm weather!

Put me down for Ireland... been there a few times and long to return.

Scotland... the Highlands... the Highlanders... Big, brawny, shirtless men in kilts throwing telephone poles because it's fun. And, of course, Glenmorrangie.

I'm with Mensa leaving Canada permanently would never happen....But for a short period, I would pick France how could one resist her charms.........;)

I'm all for Japan, myself. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be heading there in August to teach English for a few years.

Japanese isn't too difficult a language to learn, really...It just looks scary from the outside. Once you get into it, linguistically, it's very logical (much more than English, imo). The writing can be hard, but if you know how to learn it, it's not too hard.

I picked England.

They almost speak my language.

I'd have to hire a driver if I wanted to live the first time I took a car on the road though.

It is easier to fly home to the U.S. from England than Australia. It isn't easy to fly anywhere from Australia.

From England as a base, I could spend more time exploring Europe. And I'd see my German relatives more often. I just don't want to learn German to be able to live there.

Asia

Japan is my first choice. Been there and it is a beautiful place. My second choice is the Philippines. I am fluent in several dialects and worked there for 7 years.

Mexico for me.

It has an ancient and fascinating culture, varied topography, wonderful people, vibrant arts and a sad but interesting history. Oh, and did I mention the food?

Of course, the government is as corrupt as it can get, even with the PRI gone, and the poverty is still extreme. However, all that may present an opportunity to live a decent life and try to help others make theirs better.

I'm headed there in a few weeks but, this time, I'm coming back...

Scotland, I suppose

I've always been drawn toward the Highlands..

But, this is only as long as Hawai'i is still technically considered to be part of the US :p

From Russia with love

Russia is definitely my choice, namely Moscow. I like other cities and places in Russia, but Moscow calls to me. I love the language, culture, history, literature and people of Russia. Moscow has a great variety of theatre, museums and great people without too many tourists everywhere. Language is not a problem and already having some friends in Moscow makes it nice. The final perk is that it's very inexpensive right now.

Locations: Scotland (North of Ben Nevis) or Australia.

Reasons: people, history, accents, scenery. And Scotland's men in kilts [cat calls and whistles]!!

Australia, most definitely. When I go into exile, that's where I'll go.

New Zealand- geographically they've got it all : glaciers, a volcano, fjords, hot springs, green pastures & fern forrests, one of the highest waterfalls in the world- it's the prettiest place this side of Middle Earth. The people are great, the climate is mild.

They don't have the dangerous creatures that infest Australia.

I agree - New Zealand for the above reasons.

But I think I'd also love to travel. I've never been outside of North America! I want to visit all the castles in Ireland and Scotland and try to find my great great grandparent's graves. I want to go to a real honest-to-god desert. I want to play Indiana Jones and dig for artifacts. I want to see *everything*.

No contest ....

London calling to the faraway towns
Now that war is declared-and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, all you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look at us
All that phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
London is drowning-and I live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, an' go it alone
London calling upon the zombies of death
Quit holding out-and draw another breath
London calling-and I don't wanna shout
But when we were talking-I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

Now get this
London calling, yeah, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
After all this, won't you give me a smile?

I never felt so much a' like

~The Clash~

Isabella, do you have any idea what London Calling is about? It's not exactly a tribute. Oh nevermind....

Nope. Not unless you're coming to Australia with me when the levy breaks.

I select Japan because I have yellow fever.

I lived in London for 7 months and I lived in Switzerland for 10 months, and Greece for 1 month.

London is an awesome city. It's cooler than New York, it feels about as big and cosmo, and it has history to boot.
The weather and the expense do get me down though.
P.S. Oh! And the Tube kicks the shit out of NYC's transpo!

Switzerland is a wonderful country, but the people aren't that nice. Actually, they are nice, but they are not *warm*. Say you lose your wallet in Switzerland. You have about a 90% chance of getting it back unviolated. Say someone treads on your foot on the sidewalk - you have about a 5% chance of hearing "pardon".

Greece is pleasant, the history is stunning, the people are ok, but it is a little dirty and poor.

Someone was told that Italy stinks. Italians are the warmest people of any country that I have experienced! I've heard that your mileage may vary if you are female (and, esp., blonde) though.
