i'm a foodie. by that, i mean that i take a great interest in food, both the preparation and consumption. one of the best presents i ever received was a chef's table dinner at a beautiful restaurant in philly.

now, i know that it's a bit trite or cliche to associate these two appetites but i've often wondered if this is endemic for writers of erotica/porn. am i alone in thinking this?

I think that writers of porn are the same as readers of porn when it comes to fetishes or appetites. Every single one is different. I've never had a food fetish, but I know writers that do. And readers that do. I have no problem with that; they've simply never been part of my audience.

So I don't think you can say that writers of porn associate those appetites together, as we're all as different as the porn we create - And 9 1/2 weeks never did anything for me.

Food and sex are two fundamentally different matters, I have no interest whatsoever in combining the two, either in reality or in fiction.

Eating food and sex are great when someone else has to clear away the mess for you. That's why I prefer sex in restaurants.

I could say something here :D  I won't :D

I don't know, my tastes for food and sex are much alike. They are both widely varied. Sometimes I may want fast food, or a fast fuck. Sometimes I may want to relax over a good meal, just like sometimes I want to relax with an all day love making marathon. Do I combine the two of them? Rarely but there is something to be said for a nice relaxing meal with my wife for desert. :D

Distantly related.

If I'm hungry, you're not going to get laid.

Food and sex can go well together but they don't always have to go together. I've written sex and food and really enjoyed it, it's definitely a sexy thing to do now and again ;)

It's a sneaky link!

it appears i didn't explain myself clearly, so my apologies for my lack of precision: i was referring to the practice of using food metaphors while describing sex or sensuality, rather than a food fetish necessarily. sorry for any confusion, folks.

charleyh: i see that you've linked a few of your works in your profile. might i suggest adding your author page to the profile's homepage field? and i certainly do plan on checking out that work, thanks! :>

Inseperable? Only if you do it right. ;)

No, to answer the real question - I've met people intensely interested in sex who were not passionate about food as I am, but they've never struck me as having the kind of sexuality I like either. I like the nuances, with food as with sexuality - sharp contrasts, warm harmonies, scent, taste, atmosphere, indulgence, intoxication. Not everyone does. Some people I think of as more literal-minded and pragmatically focused. They like the idea of, for example, a sex machine, which to me would be rather like eating at a robotic McDonald's. But, vive la difference. To me, a really good lover would have to be passionate about food as well.

one of the best presents i ever received was a chef's table dinner at a beautiful restaurant in philly.

If it was le Bec Fin, I shall turn green with envy. Horse of a different color, as it were.

Oh! You mean like:

He slid his briefs down like he was peeling a banana. When his wiener sprang into view, I stared at it. All I could do was to get on my knees and lick his lolipop. I cupped his walnuts.....

(wish I had one of those cool smilies of the poor guy rolling around laughing his ass off)

It's all about enjoying life. Music and sex, for instance, is another good match to me.

jenny: no, what i meant was something more like this:

there's a glorious sensuousness to food and like many before me, i can't help drawing parallels between food and sex. it's trite, but still a powerful metaphor and one i can't escape. i know, writers should avoid such things, but you're supposed to "write what you know" after all, and this, this is something that i know well. there's an old saying: "most people eat to live, but italians live to eat." i'm not italian, but it still applies: i love the bold way a new aroma saunters through the air to seduce you; revel in the exultant sizzle of a steak hitting a hot grill; savor the languid motion of a silky sauce wending its way across your tongue, seeking out every last taste bud. and that's just a single dish: when combined into a well-planned meal, it's a sensory seduction.

first is the drink, an effort to relax you: the small-talk, getting to know you. after that is the salad and its dressing, to cleanse the palate of the past and prepare you for what's to follow so you can take it on its own terms. next, the appetizer: the first kiss of the culinary world, hinting at what could be, full of possibility. following the promise of possibilities is the reality, the entrée: the opportunity to explore all of the possibilities hinted at in the appetizer. finally comes dessert, the climax. done artfully, it is the glorious culmination of what has preceded. it always surprises me that there are people who don't see the sensuousness to it, don't celebrate it as i do.
i hope that clarifies.

shang: sadly no, but the name of the establishment escapes me just now.

Oh, my bad. Actually, I just couldn't resist. The words popped into my head and after I laughed at my own thoughts, I went ahead and posted them.

To me, the piece you quoted talked of food in a sensual manner. Not a sex sensual, but a sensual of the senses and the whole of a being. I think most anything could be described in this way. How often are cars referred to as "sexy"? Cars are only sexy if your getting laid in the back seat. But even then, you could describe the texture of the seat, the scent of a dog long gone and spilled beer, the squeak of the springs.

I'm not making sense, am I?
