What distractions have you found most helpful when you're having a tough time? Whether it's personal problems, writing problems, or work problems, what simple pleasures or busy work activities save your sanity?

Personally, I find driving helps me the most. I get in my car, crank up the stereo and drive around the country roads. This works when my SO and I are fighting, when I don't know where to go with writing, etc. Cleaning is theraputic too, I never throw out so much crap as when I'm really pissed off.

What's your therapy?

A Loooooong car ride is my favorite way to chill. Preferablly with a new booktape.

And porn of course.

Ridiculous numbers of posts to the AH?

*nuzzles*

Hang in there, Miss Scarlett. Wishing all possible speed in assuaging of your misery.

I was thinking after I posted that that I forgot beer. :)
buying new lingerie always seems to make me feel better too, even when I had no one to show it to, it made me feel hopeful.

Oh, I should clarify that it's not me that's miserable at the moment. Give me a few hours.

It's an immense relief.

Anyone I know?

Probably, I was just inspired by some of the bummed out posts of late from all of us here. Thanks for the kind words anyway. Kisses.

Bombay Sapphire Gin Martinis
I think that could bring me out of a coma.
A long, hot shower. Best relief of stress I know.
Amen, I've run all the hot water out many a night. :)

I boot up a game and kill things for a while. Little pieces of demons and undead raining down on the landscape does wonders for my piece of mind.

Talking with friends, either in IM or real life helps.

And I like to read the stuff I've written to remind myself I can do things right.

In the warmer weather I go sit by the loudest rapids in my river and relax. Sometimes I bring a notepad and try my hand at poetry. Others I bring my camera.

I do this too and I didn't even realize I did it until you mentioned it.:)

A good book is great escapism but when i come out of the book i tend to feel just as miserable. *L*

A good hug works wonders and sex is often a good mood enhancer too :D

Otherwise theres eating lots of chocolate and watching a weepy film (so you can have a damn good cry for a reason -clear the system)

Also I find listening to spiritual music works wonders for me as does prayer and/or meditation.

I'm not much of a cook, but baking sweets always make me feel better. There's something comforting about stirring up a batch of brownies or chocolate chip cookies. Maybe it's just the vanilla scent in the air, but it's very cozy and soothing.

:D :D :D

Nothing like blowing the heads off a few zombies to make one feel better.

I run.

And run and run and run. When I run, I go to my "place," and my brain works and my body works and it's like a drug. No pain. I can run forever and it feels good.

Endorphins. Wonderful things. ;)
