I only heard excerpts. Why does she keep saying she lives in a house that slaves built? I don't see what could possibly be gained by repeating that. It's divisive, hurtful and offensive to white people. It was a shameful chapter of our history 7 generations ago. It's a shame that we are still trying to get past.
She said that because of HRC, our daughters and sons take for granted that a woman can be President. Well, that's not true. Some might argue that she actually set back the cause for women as President.
She made some reference to the "glass ceiling". It's ironic that her husband, an unknown eight years ago, figuratively took the crown from HRC when it was rightfully hers eight years ago. It was supposed to be her time, her coronation. Now she's forced to claw her way, and will be opposed by 50% of the citizens in an ineffective regime.
Unfortunate.

Not surprised you didn't get that reference. It's a "we've come a long way, baby, in these United States" comment. Back when the White House was being built by slave labor, she and her family would have been slaves. Now they live in the White House as the occupants. Get it now? It's part of the "just look what we've accomplished in this great nation" message she was giving.

Of course if you came to the speech to not like anything it said, which you obviously did, I can see why you wouldn't make an effort to understand the message.

I think Melania gave a great speech at the Republican convention too--even a lot of the parts of it she didn't steal from Michelle.

I think she sees irony in that. So do I.

How can you possibly know she and her family would have been slaves? Even back then there were free blacks, and some of them even owned slaves. In addition, there has been immigration to America from sub-Sahara Africa. Barack Obama, for instance, is not descended from slaves, except maybe on his other's side, but that's another subject.

You certainly like to play the ostrich, don't you?

You're right. The slave owners and traders erased the slave's histories beyond recovery. Be proud of that if you like.

The sales pitch is oppression! The DNC sells oppression, you can't survive without government! So it fits into the pitch.

I'd very much like to see you try to survive without government. Yes, indeed, I'd pay to see that happen. :)

The descendants of the Democrats who owned and/or traded slaves might be proud of such acts. Not being such a person, I wouldn't know, but I certainly believe I would not be. As for "beyond recovery," I doubt that. I am sure there are still documents on record detailing sales and purchases of slaves.

Having said that, what does your post have to do with this thread or my post you are citing?

Humans survived for tens of thousands of years before they had alphabet agencies requiring permits and authorization paperwork to pick your nose.

We do need government and there are certainly legitimate function for a government. The problem is it is infiltrating literally every aspect of our lives, and many feel that is the problem. I have quite a bit of faith in people and the free market.

Quoted for the stupidity.

Congratulations on your faith in the free market. Child labor, Enron, and stock market crashes much?

Speaking of child labor, isn't that what the democrats lovely free trade agreements are all about?
I think one of the legitimate functions of government is to control illegal and immoral economic practices.

They also shit in buckets, couldn't drink the water, and died from infections at the ripe old age of 24...what's your point?

On the other hand

"Their documented passage begins with Jim Robinson, [Michelle] Obama's great-great-grandfather, who was born around 1850 and lived as a slave,"

But they did so without a predatory capitalist class.

Bullshit, bitches been getting jacked 24/7 worldwide forever.

Putting an alphabet title and a badge on them doesn't change the fact that those who can take from you will.

None of that was fixed by government or government regulation and government regulation isn't needed to keep it either.

Okay. I wasn't aware of that. If I really wanted to, which I don't, I could probably trace my ancestry back and find ancestors who were slaves, although of a different kind than chattel slaves. Probably most people could.
