Trump isn't a Democrat and the point is that until the D's can field a "Trump-like" candidate they're not going to survive as a political party.

So hate on, because the R's are enjoying the fuck out of watching you assholes burn your own party to the ground. Hell, I've heard unsupported rumors of a Republican Praypal/Omar/AOC/Crockett/Bowman/et all fan club just to keep them front and center in the eyes of the American People.

So the Dems have to field a candidate who lies as a default position, with multiple convictions, has defrauded charities, has disparaged the disabled, vets, has multiple allegations of sexual assault and says he's more important than the US Constitution, otherwise they can't win.

I think they'd rather lose than win with a candidate like Trump.

The Democratic Party won with Biden, and they can win again simply by Americans being reminded how bad / how much worse things always get when republicans are in charge.

A "Trump-like" candidate would be one who, regardless of his personal character or abilities, appears to be an avatar embodying some political current.

Trump is the avatar of RW populist nationalism and of Christian nationalism. His success is based on that. He cannot lose voters who identify with those things. It is not a matter of "charisma" -- Trump has the charisma of a rotting dog carcass.

The Dems need an avatar of general post-FDR liberalism -- or of left-progressive social democracy -- one or the other; the party can never really decide which direction it wants to go.

While I doubt you are correct on that "Socialist" doesn't scare people anymore 2016 was almost a decade ago at this point. While I think bigotry was the deciding factor for Trump. A black man WAS in charge. A woman was about to be in charge. Nothing else REALLY mattered but putting us back our places. Another huge part was how unpopular Obamacare was and is and how that was step one into us becoming China or Russia.

I'm sure you've seen the videos of people who were scared they were going to lose their coverage under the ACA. They voted to end Obamacare not the ACA!!!!!!! So if you're going to argue even the somewhat informed general public are really keep track of everything you can have fun with that.

There are at least a dozen options I can think of offhand - I like what I've seen from Gov. Pritzger of Illinois, for starters - but that's really beside the point.

I'm in the camp of not trusting the narrative on this because of how wrong they were about Harris/Biden. I could be wrong but it's Florida. Not that there aren't D's in office there, but the whole thing smacks of an attempt to gin up votes and voters rather than facing reality.
