Could someone turn down the A/C just a notch please?!

Any of you have any crafty solutions to cooling an upstairs room that's away from the main a/c vent line, close to the only attic access, and facing the sun? Reguardless of the a/c being run all day long that room is about 15-20 degrees higher than the rest of the house. Being that this is my room, with the computer.. I can't even do the five finger shuffle without getting so hot it's a turn off. The obvious solution would be a window fan but ~35 minutes (no joke.) after I installed mine I had a lady older than christ himself banging on my door saying that there is a "white trash" clause in my parents homeowners association agreement that prohibits the use of window ac units and even window fans. She also mentioned that the grass I cut earlier has the blade setting too high and I needed to get a license plate for a car we have parked IN THE DRIVEWAY that we just purchased for my brothers graduation present. Sorry to get off on a rant there but that really pisses me off.

In closing, I'd love to hear about any experiences you guys have had with ductless/portable ac units, cooling machines, register/vent boosters or any other "cool" accessory. Thanks!

Dear God Nice guy...... I have no experience with any of the things you ask, particulary the bitchy neighbour! Egads...... how folks live in those home associations is beyond me! Perhaps you could try some of that darkening film on your window to cut the amount of light and heat beating its way into your room? I know this stuff works to some degree. Otherwise, I have nothing to tell you.

NiceGuyinJax, MSK is right, the window film helps alot. Also, I would make sure the attic access has a good seal and plenty of insulation as well as checking in the attic itself above that room to make sure there is good insulation between the joists. Do you not have AC ducted into that room at all? Heat is baaad for your puter, you need to find a solution.
As far as the neighbor, just smile and agree politely, hehe

I tried some of that window film, it does sort of help but I think the main source of heat in the electronics in here.. I sealed off the attic a little more as I could feel warm air dropping in from the hole! Tonight seems to be cooler than usual so hopefully I'll be able to get the lotion out and do some palm exercises tonight! The joys of being single.

Welcome to the forum Skip! Sounds like you have a utopian arrangement there! Maybe you'll find some more playmates on here. I don't mean to plug but adultfriendfinder.com is a really good source too. Hi nice guy,
See if you can install an attic turbine vent to cool the attic. A lot of the heat in your comes from the attic heat radiating down to your room. The balance of the heat comes from hot air that rises up the stairwell. Close the door to your room or put that fan blowing the hot air back down the stair.

Hope this helps...it did in my house.
