Thunder and lightning my way...bump! ;)

Has lightning ever caused damage to anyones property?

Florida has the most amount of lightning in the US but even though you see it practically ever night, I was just wondering if it has actually caused any damage (besides what you read in the paper).

well we lost the alarm system, several appliances and the Olive tree from a direct hit to the tree one year.
we also lost some electronics on a surge thru the phone lines once too
a month ago the neighbors lost their AC system ($7000 to replace) from a hit

wow, sorry to hear all that.

When I look into the sky I often think the bolt I just saw must have hit the ground somewhere but I never hear anything.

I've always been intrigued by lightning until I moved down here and saw that lightning in other states go sideways but lightning in Florida goes downward toward the ground.

last weekend in Tampa there were 2 homes lost to lightning strike fires. and those times were not all the ones that get tourists too dumb to get off the golf course or beach.
I think we are just lucky with all the strikes we have here that so few lead to real nasty damage.
