Hello from the Mud Coast of Florida

thought I would put my $0.02 in here....realtors and developers like to call our area "The Forgotten Coast" but, I know it better...its all mud around here...Tallahassee is just to the North and sends us more polluted waste water than we can handle. Arvida and St. Joe may tell you it's paradise. Don't believe them.

Other than that us crackers like it the way it was.

Rainy days depress me.

But need the rain down my way. We're on fire and trees are blocking roadways. Gotta love FL. We're either getting blown away by hurricanes or burning. We can't win.

Nope - cause that's when the insurance people come to screw ya.

My banana needs a recharge . . . and I thought it was the lightening that knocked the power out.

Oh I have that kind of power, don't you know that?

Cracker sighting! yay!

:nana: :nana: :nana: YAY, another Cracker speaks up!

Hey Duckie, I know where you're coming from, I'm a cracker too and on my recent visit to the SE coast I was distressed to see all of the changes which haven taken place in a few short months!
I remember vast areas of native scrubland and swamp, but now those areas are home to shopping malls, gated communities and golf courses. <sigh> Life as we knew it is gone my friend and it's the "new" Floridian who is in control.
Although I'm now living in England and loving it, I miss the place of my birth and growing up there.
Peace to you Duckie; take comfort you're one of the few Floridians remaining who gives a damn!
:rose:

~kym~ Cracker living in exile

I'm with you, I'm tired of seeing all the development around here. I was born and raised here in Central FL and in the last 10 years it seems like development has exploded. Especially where I live. I want a backyard and not have the ability to spit on my neighbor's house. *double sigh* There's my thoughts. lol

Oh give me a home, where wildlife USED to roam....

In "my neck o' the woods", it began in the late seventies and has virtually gone to the edge of the glades!
Now the developers are tearing down old homes, buildings, etc. and putting up highrise apartments.
When I was growing up there was lots of beach access, but that land is now occupied by highrise condos which prevent using the beach above the high-tide mark; forget about getting to the beach!
It saddens me to see the great state of Florida being turned into a product to be marketed to only those who can afford to pay the $$$$$$$.
What of the common person? Those who love the peace and tranquility of nature? <<DEEP sigh>>
I could go on for hours, but I'm afraid it falls on deaf ears, or ears which are stuffed with $$ made from raping our natural resources.
Oh well... now that I've depressed myself and anyone reading this; I'll simply say good luck to those still there.

~kym~ a resident of the UK, but Cracker to the soul

Hello cracker Kym

I feel for you darling...how can you survive in the U.K....does the sun shine up there? we will have a seafood feast in your honor when you come home and with all the citrus and exotic fruits you want....bundle up dear and don't catch a cold.

Blue

Back at cha, my indigo aquatic pal

Surviving in the UK isn't difficult for a Cracker, as you know we are adaptable and allow things to run off of our backs. *ahem* Like a duck! :p
Seriously... Living here isn't soooo bad, the countryside is beautiful and the people I've encountered are easy to get along with.
The rain now... that's another kettle of fish!
Take today for instance; it's overcast, has been since Friday night and it's a bit chilly. But!! There's HOPE!
The forecast is for gradual clearing and by Wed., it's forecast to be warm and hazy. yay! The locals complain when it gets above 70, but for a Cracker, that's still a bit cool. lol, We like it hot! If it ain't in the 90's, it ain't hot!
Who's to say what the UK will be like in the future with global warming and all; it might become a tropical paradise, but I doubt that will happen in my lifetime.

Yeah, life isn't bad here, I have lots of greenland around me and no neighbours who can look into my house from theirs! **as I type this looking out onto 17 acres of meadow**

Peace Blue, the worst day in Florida still beats the best day in other places. :nana:

~kym~ although.... life here @ Castle Starkpic is a pretty close second! :)

I'm with you,,,been her only 10 yrs & so much has changed,,,, its undescribable.
& I dont see how they say its for the better. I'm originally from new jersey & there its almost all been done over like is happening here. I hate to say its pathetic. (even though I own some land & a rental property){{{but I owned that before all this shit started!!!!!!!!}}}} Another hurricane or 2 & the cost of insurance skyrocketing will change things.
For a little while.

<sigh> I dunno Roy, I doubt a little thing such as a 'cane will stop the mass destruction of Florida.
The area I'm from has grown rapidly since H'cane Frances and Jeanne; there has been little effect on the building industry from those storms or last season's Wilma.
It appears investors are willing to risk potentially dangerous storms to make a buck or two.
I must say my head isn't so far buried in the sand that I can't see the need for additional housing for the world's populace, but... to rape the land as it's being done is a crime against nature.
Ok, I'll shut up and step off of my "soap-box"; for now.
My apologies for turning this thread into a rant, but it needed to be said.
/rant ;)
Carry on with the flirting, I'm outa here to enjoy some English spring!
Peace to all :rose:
~kym~ no more ranting... I promise :) at least for now :p
