We've had a huge amount of rain here in the last couple days as well as some flooding, and I was just thinking of this scenario: two young women, living in seperate parts of a duplex, awake in the middle of the night to find their home being flooded as a dam upstream has burst (burst dam as unsubtle metaphor for pent-up sexual desire!!). Each has issues in their lives that they've moved to this small rural community to escape, and as they sit on the roof with a flashlight, wrapped in each other's arms to keep warm, they watch various possessions of their old life float away, and in the freedom that losing one's possessions can cause, they each begin to explore a side of the sexuality that they had never allowed themselves to think about...

...and then ten muscular young firemen show up to rescue them!
or not... I just added that because if I didn't I know someone else would! The first part could be really nice and tender, though.

no good? Would it work better as a male/female pairing, rather than lesbian?

I think the lesbian version works better.

Maybe they share sides of a diplex but have never interacted beyond a cool hello as they go about their very different lives. One is a night owl student, the other a staid housewife, who's hubby has taken the kids to his Mom's just before the flood hit.

As they talk, they realize...

I can

see the dangerous dark churning waters. The flashes of lighting and thunder rumbling in the background somewhere in the distance a building creeks and collapses as the water rises the glass in the windows below them break.

The tension is almost horrible but I can see them huddled together, holding each other tight. They should be smart, strong and rather healthy women if no one else is there and they had to get on the roof. Maybe lots of families ran, some are on the top floor and refuse to go up until the end and others try to get up there and fall into the waters.

I would cling to someone anyone, people tend to confess things when placed in these situations like things they’d do different, make bargains, and dream of the future, all out loud.

oo...very nice, and i like the device of the rising waters, fogbank. :> me, i'd keep the firefighters out of it, though. i don't think it particularly matters if it's a hetero or homosexual pairing, to be honest. the isolation of the house however is itself a useful narrative tool IMHO, so keeping the protagonists isolated seems best to me. :>
