Fleas

Help my cat has fleas and they're eating me alive. I gave her a Rejuvinate treatment, but what do I need to do about my house?
-itchy/ scratchy
P.S. she's an indor cat all the time, how did this happen?

OMG.

I don't know if I should respond seriously or just ignore.

somehow, i believe you may need to get the pest control man to come around. Spray the house and rid it of the flees. now for the main problem...
the cat...

find a 44Gallon drum and 1/4 fill it with water.
place cat inside.
put lid on....
wait......
wait.....
wait.....
(splashing stops)

Problem solved

I was actually in pest control for some time.

1. depends on your floors fleas require dirt to continue there life cycle.
if you have floor boards with cracks in them they can live in there same with carpet.

2. fleas can lay dormant for up to 2 years in the right conditions and vibrations make them spawn.

3. Get a pro is my advice. But what I did before even getting into pest control and very effective we have 2 dogs and a cat was go down to whereever and get bug bombs the ones that spray upwards. follow the directions and it would knock over the inital infestation keep your cat flea treated and try to keep as much of your floor dirt and crack free. Its not a personal thing it takes very little dirt for them to breed up.

Good luck ive seen good pesties struggle with these buggers.

seems odd someone would troll about fleas on a site mainly about sexuality.

Seems odd that we have a gazillion Obama trolls on the General Board.

It happens, stop bumping the thread.

i have cats and one is severely allergic to fleas - basically by fall he looks like he has mange. <<Yes i have taken him to the vet a million times over it.
I found a powder that you put on the cat and basically rub it into his skin.
He hasnt had any break outs yet this year, and boy is he a happy kitty because of it.
The fleas attach to you, your clothing, your hair, your shoes...Thats how they get in your house - people have the mindset "only animals have fleas," but we're animals too you know.
To get rid of the fleas already in your house you have to stop at your local vets office and see if they can help you find something that will get rid of and help prevent fleas. There is no guarenteed prevention, tho - just to give you a heads up.

I'm looking at the OP's other posts, and I'm not feeling the troll vibe. People start nonsexual How-To threads pretty regularly. *shrug*

I don't know how your cat could've gotten fleas if it's an indoors cat... maybe you walked through the grass and one latched onto your sock or something, and you brought it in. But, if you have carpeting, there's a kind of vacuumable carpet powder you can use to kill the fleas in the carpet... they sell it at Wal-Mart. We had a semi-outdoor cat, and she'd bring fleas in (even despite the flea baths and collar), and we'd squash them. It wasn't that bad until we got rid of her... they decided to breed then, and they were everywhere. So we used this powder, waited an hour or so, then vacuumed. We did that like every day for a week, and then there was only a few left (nothing that couldn't be solved with persistent squashing). You might wanna check it out... it'll either be in with the other Carpet Fresh sorts of powders, or in the pet aisle.

It only takes one female flea and a blood meal and they can spwan a hell of a lot so it couldve happend they come inside off of you a friend shoes anything.

Do they have that stuff that you put a drop on the back of the cat's neck where you are? It probably goes by different names in different countries, but if it's the stuff I used to use it works great. Not only does it kill all the fleas on the cat but it kills the ones in the carpet too because they jump on the cat, bite it and die.

i used that stuff on my cat, and he almost died from it-like i said in my post, he is allergic to fleas. So he may have also been allergic to whatever was in the drop. Just talk to your vet, they're the best people to ask for this kind of thing.

One word ... Eucalyptus!

Get Euc chips from local tree trimming companies and spread them in the flower beds around the house. Get Euc oil and dab it on small pieces of cloth and place around the house. Euc has a very nice aroma and not only will drive the fleas and ticks from the premises, it will also deter other cats from your property. Who knows, it may even deter squirrels and other flea/tick carrying varmints from your property.

You have to bomb the house with a spray that goes into the air and finds the cracks where they hide. You can get it at a local store like Walmart or a hardware store and get tehm off of your cat, with maybe a drip from you Vet or some other way. While the spraying you have to leave, and follow all the directions on the can, then afterward clean everything in the house. I had it once when a renters cat brought fleas into a duplex that I owned. It isnt fun, but that is the only way.

I tried a ton of treatments. I tried lots of over the counter drops from pet stores, sprays, shampoos and even had diatomaceous earth. My cats were indoor too, but fleas are kinda small and can get inside. And the eggs can live a very, very long time.

Nothing worked until I treated my animals with Advantage, and then that took care of it.

Get a prescription or order online.

I had a flea infestation for a bit awhile back. I had three dogs and two cats. What worked for me was flea dips at home for the animals, can be bought at a pet store, walmart, vet and then two rounds of bug bombs for fleas. We bombed with three of them, one in the basement (pretty open) and two upstairs in different parts of the house. Bug bombs were cheaper then pest control and seemed to do the trick. We waited for a couple months I think before the second one to give the eggs a chance to hatch.

Back in the early eighties I had an flea infestation in my living room, carpet and all.

This is a pestilence of biblical proportions!

I even used stuff that is way illegal today...the fleas drank it and asked for more.

I used chlordane 20%, Raid and smoke bombs that genetically fucks them up so them and their eggs are sterile.

It took a few weeks, but I won.

What I'm trying to say is...You need professional help!

Try giving your cats a bath in Dawn soap. It dries their skin a little but kills fleas instantly. as far as for your home I have used, natural flea and tick spray. It is natural and safe to use if you have previously treated with frontline. can spray on your furniture and their bedding.

The only thing that works on my cats and dog and doesn't make any of them sick is Adams Flea & Tick Spray.
http://www.adamsfleacontrol.com/

I've used the spray on the carpet and the shampoo on the dog. There's a pet spray I use on the cats (you try bathing a 28 clawed cat- its not easy.)

It takes a thorough cleaning to get rid of them. Every bit of carpet, bedding, couches, chairs, etc has to be treated. Vacuum, spray, wait an hour, vacuum again and lay down a final suppression spray. While you're waiting for the initial die-off, wash all animals in the house, whether they show flea signs or not, or douse them well with the spray.

I hate fleas cause they adore me.
Happy hunting.

Precor.....buy this chemical and add it to any regular insecticide treatment you use inside...viola...flea eggs destroyed.

Precor attacks the eggs and larva so they can not mature into biting adults. And the treatment will work for up to 7 months with each application tho I highly recommend using it once every 2 weeks for the first month/month and a half.

not only will it kill the eggs already embedded in your carpets but any new fleas coming in from outdoors will not be able to reproduce either.

flea treatment with insect growth regu;lator in it or it wont kill the eggs as well. advantage or frontline works best on the dog. the flea treatment with IGR is best to get in spray form.
