Firsts

My dad, when my mother left him and moved us three hours away. I was four.

First time you had to tell someone you liked them but you didn't like like them?

College, in retrospect I don't think I liked him at all.

First time you got your heart broken?

Has never happened.

First time you kissed?

Age 14... he was inexperienced and it was sloppy and and made me wonder whether I didn't actually like kissing at all (spoiler alert, I do)

First time you tried something sexually that you thought you would like, but didn't?

Edible body paint, much better in theory than in practice. And dont get me started about edible undies 😖

First time you went overseas, where and when?

Hasn't happened yet. Maybe for work in the next year or two.

First time you locked yourself out of your house?

Brussels, for work, in my early 20s.

oops. sorry - answer the question above.

I was a kid and thankfully the weather was nice enough I could hang on the porch till someone came home.

First time you ate lobster.

In college, with my first serious girlfriend...it was a fancy place and I felt like a big shot ordering the lobster dinner.

It was that night I discovered I very much dislike lobster. Who knew?

First time you felt like a success?

At work: when I was offered a huge raise to stay at a job I didn’t enjoy... and I turned them down because I wanted more for myself (money isn’t everything).

In life: when my then two-year-old used the word “predicament” in a sentence that made sense (it helped it was in front of my mom).

First time you remember getting into a big argument with someone and why?

Probably something with my parents when I was 12 or 13. I was very argumentative for a while, but I don't think it was anything other than the usual 'kid tries to figure out what he thinks of the world' stuff.

First time you lost a set of keys?

First time you lost a set of keys?

I was probably around 9 or 10 years old. I was a latch key kid and my family kept a house key hidden in the detached garage so no matter which kid got home first, they could let themself in. I thought I should be in charge of the key and I promptly lost it. My mom made a very big deal about me being marched down to the hardware store where I had to get another key made and also pay for a very large key chain so it would be harder to lose. I don't think I've ever lost my keys since.

First car you ever purchased on your own.

1970 For Maverick. It was an odd red shade. I painted it Corvette Yellow.

First pair of high heels? Of if a guy answers, first pair you saw on a woman that you really liked.

Perhaps not the first. She was selling shoes in JC Penneys. Squatted in front of me, using a shoehorn and "unintentionally" spread her legs to show me how bald she was. As the years rolled by, we spent many a time in the back shoe storage room doing a quickie. She slipped her number and we became good friends.

The first time a person slipped their phone number to you?

One of the dads at the dance academy I attended as a kid (YUCK!) I never knew how to bring it up and basically forgot about it until I heard he was arrested for doing basically that same thing!

First time you left your home town?

First time you left your home town?

Family holiday, probably. Wales or Cornwall.

First intimation that there might be more interesting life beyond your home town?

I'm from a city.....so....I'll take the question in a different direction. 1989, fall of the berlin wall. I knew then that I really loved politics because I was infatuated with the idea of a split city because of political ideology. I knew I wanted to travel and live elsewhere.

First time your political views differed from someone you cared about?

Probably my first partner, who decided she didn't ever want to get into political discussions (but religion or psychology, oddly, were never a problem). Sometimes she'd see something she specifically agreed with on TV and would chime in with some view, but otherwise didn't like to think about it. I was young, and so grateful someone had taken an interest that I let it slide. Now? Pff, fuck that, I've no time for people who don't at least try to care about it (and yes, I get that sometimes people lead exhausting lives and can't easily keep up, I'm not talking about that).

First time you felt really unwell?

First time you felt really unwell?

I was diagnosed with leukemia when I was 5, so probably then.

First time you went on a blind date?

First time you went on a blind date?

I’m glad you kicked cancer’s ass.

I never went on a real blind date. Online dates don’t count because I saw the people before. I’d be open to it, but I always assume people will think I’m as unattractive as I think I am!

First time you felt out of place?

Oh lord, I have always felt out of place. But I can clearly remember playing duck, duck goose in grade school and a boy yelling "pick Indie because she's slow and fat!"

First time you felt proud of an accomplishment?

College... Maybe, seems like should have been earlier.

First time you felt you made a bad choice

First boyfriend.

First time you realised who you really were sexually?

I was in my 60's. On my knees. With a strangers hard cock past my lips, using my tongue all over his dick. My mind had told me I was a queer. And when he came in my mouth, I never felt so happy, or sexier.

I had just given a man my first blowjob. I was gay, a faggot, and wanted more.

2016 after my divorce I began discovering and maybe last year finally got it mostly figured out.

First movie you saw in a theater?

Earliest I can remember was Disney’s Aladdin. Might have been at a classmate’s birthday party.

First time something of yours got published somewhere?
