Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Just wondered if anyone is writting their first story like me. I've decided to write about some real things that happened to me and I must say the writting has been a real turn on for me.

Not sure what to do with it when i'm finished though, I dont think its of a standard to be put on lit:)

Heh, don't automatically lower your standards to the level of some of the stories that I've read here! :D I won't mention any titles or authors. It's funny that I should reply to this post since you and I seem to have a similar self confidence level. I am also thinking about writing my first story (still in the planning and organizational stage at this point) and I too am worried about measuring up. But I'd still like to try. So let us know when you've finished as I (for one) would love to read it!

Just write! That way you will develop. Even if you don't post you can read it over yourself until you are happy with your style.

My highest rated story is the one that turned me on the most while writing it. I'd wager those two things are not coincidental :)

Looking forward to reading your story once it goes up.

Don't rush yourself, either. Honestly, the longer I take on a story, the happier I am with it. Even if it's just sitting three quarters finished for weeks at a time, I'm still thinking about it, coming up with better ways to handle situations, transisitions, re-writing and re-editing, etc.

I've been too busy to write. Never posted shit on Lit. Prolly never will. These people are much to picky. I only post on sites for the mental challenged.

By the way... Hi Danielle

There are plenty of voluntary editors who will be happy to help. The real challenge in writing is to finish what you start.

To save embarrassment, spell check! You want your first story to be spelt correctly. Your post which I've quoted spells "writing" incorrectly, with two t's. I get a red line under that word on my Mc, and also in Windows. Don't you?

Wow, a DK sighting! :D Hey Dani, nice to see you here again.

And youngrabbit - just enjoy the writing process. :) Practice makes perfect, so they say. ;)

They told me that too. Now I look for readers who ride the "short bus" with a helmet :(

Possibly not. My view doesn't spellcheck, so some don't.

Switch to Google Chrome browser and all your on-line typing will be checked. It will not check pasted text.

There is a plug in for IE spell check, which will appear on your reply to thread window, but it is not automatic.

Oh me. I wonder how seriously I can possibly take a new "writer" who can't spell writer.

The world is full of so many writters. I love writting, don't you? I especially love to read writting that is full of misspellllled words.

I'm currently working on my first story for lit as well. We should start a club.

Great advice. I've been working on mine for months now. I leave it to sit for a week and then reread with a fresh brain. I always love the changes I make.

Writing fictionalized accounts of your own experiences is a good way to get started. :) However, as has been suggested, use Spellcheck or similar program and proofread also. And, it might not be a bad idea to run it past an editor.

BTW, writing is a turnon. That's just one of the fun things about it.:D

Writter, spitter, litter...nah, I got nothing.

Just write and have fun and learn and grow.

Welcome to the AH, youngrabbit.

Let's review:

Spellcheck.

Editor.

Take your time.

Have fun.

Have confidence in what you're writing.

I would add reading a few stories already posted...possibly from the Top Lists in various categories...get a feel for what works...and determine in which cat your story would best be placed.

Good luck and welcome to the AH. :D

I agree with the welcome, although you have been around for about eight months. I also agree that the reason for writing here is to have fun and shoot the bull with other authors. Some of the writers here make some money from of it, but most of us are just here for fun and to flirt. I don't mean for you to flirt with me, by the way.

Thanks for the advice everyone, spell check is a must for me as mine can be appalling when i'm in full flow :)
