It was rejected for violating the underage rule. I thought that i had carefully avoided any words that might violate the standard. Apparently, using the word 'young' puts me in violation of said rule. It was used once, in the story, and stupidly, again in the tagline. (Young cousins explore together).
I've noticed that some writers put a disclaimer in the foreword, stating that no characters are below the age of 18.
My question. If I do the same, and remove the word "young" from the story, can I re-submit the story with any hope of acceptance, or is a first rejection, the kiss of death?

The disclaimer is a good idea, as is stating somewhere in the story their age. Just a brief comment in place of the 'young'.

Yes, you can re-submit a story, with acceptance if they feel the age requirement is then satisfied. If not, tweak it and try again. ;)

Place a comment in the notes section of your submission pointing out what you've done to correct the age requirement.

Others may have more/better ideas for you as well.

Good luck and welcome. :)

Thank you MistressLynn. I'll try to rework the story and submit it again.

Don't feel too bad "rocky" my first and only submission was deemed "too violent" and then sent off site... to a place I've yet to find. I gave up on submitting stories and have decided to write to please myself on the boards:kiss:

It does seem that some, at least, of the censors at Lit are putting ever tighter limits on what is deemed "under age".

Thanks for your reply SweetAngelina, My eyes are really opening now. Like you, I'm also working on a couple of stories that contain "violence". The use of these scenes are critical to the stories. Perhaps my forms of violence are are milder than yours. One can hope. I never imagined that a rather humble, and somewhat conservative person like myself, would be thrown in with the 'radicals'.
My writing interests aren't limited to just a few classifications, as many here seem to be. It would be easier to list the areas that I'm not interested in. As a novice to the writing world, I'm still in the learning process. I've learned that I should stick to one story at a time. The old saying, "strike while the iron is hot" is truly fitting. Foolishly, I started a number of stories, most of them unfinished. I should say, "unwritten", because they are finished in my mind, they just have'nt been put into text. I have many more, also waiting to be put into text, all stored in my mind.
I'm not ready to give up yet.

The most violent story (and one of the most amazing) that I've read it called "Hunted" by furrybert may be seen as a guideline for you if you're interested in submitting a violent story.

Also, 18 IS young, so you should be able to use the word young in your story. I have the male characters in my story "TheRapist" calling the 19 yr old female "little girl" and it was accepted because early in the story it was clear that she was 19. My point is, I don't think that your word usage is subject to scrutiny as regaurds to age as long as their age is clearly stated- or you have a disclaimer. I don't think you should change your words.
