We stopped at a few scenic spots along the way, put some distance bewteen us and the teenagers and managed to sneak in a few pics...
These first ones are from Ellis Beach, which is on the highway north, heading towards Port Douglas. You can see our stinger-proof enclosure in the background of one shot - this is box jellyfish season here and the waters are treacherous. These nets don't keep out another tiny little jellyfish called irukanji, which cause a very nasty, often fatal sting. They kill you by raising your blood pressure to incredible levels. People who have been stung by them and survived recount a horrific sense of doom as part of the symptoms....I stay out of the ocean!

It was 1pm and the heat was intense. I lay down on the pebbles and I could see the heat shimmering all around me...

These pics were taken looking out onto Dixon Inlet from a beautiful old timber wharf that was originally built for sugar shipping, but has not served that purpose for a long time. Presently it is only used by fishermen.... and photographers! More blinding sunlight - summer in the tropics!
