Ok, the main problem I see you are having is not having something like a little table tripod, so you can get the focus correct. Plus, not sure if you have a remote control for your camera or a timer.

Remotes are so much easier, but timers can be done as well. Set the timer for the longest period, get your chair ready and then, push the shutter and get back into the chair (or bed, or wherever)
