Proud night to be from Wisconsin. We came through for Obama and now this.

Great night.

First gay senator? Please. Many senators have been closeted gays for decades. Hell I'm pretty sure they have all fucked us in the ass at one time or another.

Or did you mean "first openly gay while running for office senator?" Now for that I salute the Land O' Cheeseheads.

Valid point, I guess.

Correction: First OPENLY gay senator is from Wisconsin.

Yes, the first openly gay senator. She's been a state legislator for a long time, and way out of the closet the whole time. I've met her several times, and she's a great person.

Go Tammy!

Personally I am impressed a midwest state elected an openly gay person to any national seat. Congrats Wisconsin!

Ummm... didn't your midwestern state legalize gay marriage a while back? Kudos on that one.

Also, go Cyclones! (Did my B.S. in Ames.)

Newt was Speaker of the House.

At least pick a senator...

And you people won the election!!!

The first gay senator...

Larry "wide stance" Craig would beg to disagree with you.

Was she voted in as Senator on the singular issue of being openly gay or because her supporters believe she can do a better job overall?

Hell, I'd vote for my dog as Senator if I thought he could do a better job. The only reason my senator was re-elected is because he went unchallenged.

It's significant because it marks the beginning of an era when being openly gay is not a big obstacle in American politics.

(Except for conservatives who will choose continue to wallow in their own filth and bigotry)

Outside of the national elections, my ballot was Republican or write-in.

;) ;) I did not know your dog's name...

Oh yes, I agree with the significance of it. It is a positive in that respect.

I am only questioning it because I rarely, if ever, vote for a candidate because of one issue or if that candidate shares a mere 2 or 3 opinions as me. Like, I am white and have a tendency to lean towards republican and conservatism. But I am not a puppet that votes for the same candidates out of blind loyalty or some common ground. If I am unhappy with a candidate I voted for, then the next time I will vote for the opposition.
