I haven't been on a legitimate date in eleven years. (Marriage and a child tends to put a cramp in being a social butterfly :D ) But I've been seperated for over eight months now and I think its time I start dating a bit.

So someone has asked me out for a date on Valentines Day and I'm extremely nervous.

What on earth do I wear? It isn't going to be a very formal date, I've already asked. lol

What if I freeze up and can't think of anything interesting to say?

Do ya'll have any good tips?

Valentine's day? Wow that's a month away...good thing he didn't ask you to marry him, heh. :)

lol Well we had scheduling problems and that day seemed like the best for us to go out.

Sorry

Change the "eleven years" to nineteen, and your've pretty much described me. Is the someone familiar with Lit? You can talk about this place endlessly.

I married two months after I turned 18, so I don't have a wealth of experience prior to that either. Things have changed so much.. and I'm about as hip as Al Gore.

I haven't been out dancing in at least 9 years... the only movies that I get to go out and see are usually ones that a 10 year old can watch.

I know it seems like such a silly thing but I feel like a kid waiting for her first kiss...

happiness and love to you sweety!!

as to what to wear, foxinsox got it in one - find out where you're going and let that dictate your attire.

what to say? - what you'd say to anyone you met will help break the ice - talk about his job, family, stuff like that. open-ended questions so that "yes" and "no" answers are minimized. remember, he'll be asking you questions too so the conversation should flow. don't get freaked out by any awkward silence, taint no biggie. if stuck, talk about something that was just on tv or at the movies.

in case of emergency: "hey, how bout that thing with iraq?"

remember to relax and enjoy - not much point being around someone if you can't do those things now is there? (having said that, it's good to be excited about the mystery of it all aint it? whatever the result on this one, that's one of the best parts of being single - you don't get that when you go out with someone longterm, no matter how great it is.)

hope it goes well.

just have fun and be YOURSELF hun ..if he dont like ya for who you really are .. or tries to change ya (like my last guy did) the He is NOT worth your time ..trust me..

Wear what you like,

Say what you think,

Be your sweet self,

And try not to cause him a heart attack with your thorough lovin ;)

I have always found that gettin royally sloshed before the date helps to relieve any and all tension....and a drunk NEVER runs out of things to say. As for what to wear...I think less is always more.

Thank you Foxinsox and Dream, I don't doubt I'll have fun just nervous is all. lol

Good advice bigjacknyc and I'll only pull out the Iraq thing if there is a long lull in conversation. It is great to have that anticipation of a first date, a first whatever with someone new...

O, trust me I don't plan on harming him... unless he likes it rough. ;-)

lol you sound like another gal I know from KY Hillbilly Honey. :)
I've already informed him that it will be mostly a liquid dinner for me.. not too many (because I get tipsy quickly) but enough to make me feel at ease.

date

Find a couple of things that you have in common and go with that. Your attire, most men enjoy a sharp dressed woman in their company.

Kitters of all the things to worry about....something to say??

That's like asking if the Sahara might run out of sand!

as much as I love it when you call me bitch... i think that's worthy of a hussy-bitch don't you?? :D

BE YOURSELF......

You've got alot to say, you've managed a family, seen the world change, you're in a separation, and I'm sure you have an idea on what makes good companionship. Wear a sweatshirt and some jeans, see if he likes being with you when you're casual. You don't have to conform to impress him, he has to earn your companionship! If it's right, the basic moves are still the same, as well as the chemistry.
On Valentine's Day you never have to worry what to wear, because he'll be there with his hearton! (say it fast!...hearton!)
Have fun! :D :rose:

Btw are you available to go shopping soon? lol

Have I ever mentioned how much I like reading your posts? Very good advice.. as for my attire the jeans will be the following nights date. Its a two parter. :)
I was thinking of maybe a skirt and some sort of top.. perhaps some heels (will give me a chance to go shoe shopping as well!) and nylons. Nothing too fancy but dressy enough to show that I care that we are going out.

it sounds like hard on. :D
