First Car

First car was a 1975 sedan deVille Caddy. Baby blue with with top. Damn that car was a boat from the word go, but is the only car I have ever had that would let you put 9 people in it and be pretty comfortable and this was without using the trunk..lol.. Damn I miss that car!!!

1976 Cutlass Supreme.......350 rocket passed everthing up but a gas station...................

Twice in one night

I mentioned this on another thread but I had a 1974 Plymouth Valiant. Bright yellow with the white vinyl landau roof that peeled off. My girlfriend said she loved to ride in the car since "if she was inside it, she didn't have to look at it." Oh, and the 8 track player that always played the ghost noise in the background from other tracks.

Mine was a 1971 cream colored Chevy Vega that cost $800.00. I blew 2 engines in 2 years, my dad was so mad at me. I drove it to pieces, hot rodded it all over town, no little car should be abused the way I did that one. It hated my first husband, every time he got into it, it would die. I had a lot of fun in that little hunk of junk.

I HAD A FEW OF THEM

My Dad was an auto mechanic who bought all of his kids', except my younger sister, first cars. But I had 2 first cars.
My 1st was a 1969 Buick Opel Coupe. Wasn't anything flasy about it but it was in the need of lots of repairs that I was doing to it. I had it during my high school senior year and never drove it, since it was never repaired. My Dad later sold it to his cousin and she gave him an estimation of what I paid for parts. I told him to keep the money since, afterall, he was my father.
My other 1st car was a 1970 AMC Hornet and I was able to drive it off and on. While the car looked pretty good (not sporty but plain with fender flares), the color sucked. It was a bluish green color. It was a complete lemon though. My Dad repaired the transmission but it constantly broke down. He even put all new parts in the damn transmission but Borg-Warner was the worst tranmission ever developed. Obviously, this may be why AMC began using Chrysler transmissions in their vehicles by 1973.
My favorite cars. however, were the 2nd and 3rd ...1972 Buick Riviera (Sky Blue w/White vinyl top; 455 engine & 400 TurboHyramatic transmission) and 1976 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (Silver w/Silver leather top and Maroon leather interior). The Riviera was my favorite because I was working at a wrecking yard when I had it and I would install luxury options on it that I got from Cadillac ElDorados and DeVilles and Oldsmobile 98's and Toranados. Call me weird but while alot of high school boys were into fast cars and women, I was more into fast women and luxury cars. You know....The kind of cars that, when sitting in the back seat, you're in another zip code.

My first car was a 1970 plum crazy purple 'Cuda 340/6. Way more car than a 16 year old girl should ever have!

Wow, the car I have been looking for to buy and restore. Got any idea where it is today?

My first cars were the following:

1976 Olds Cutlass Salon in Mint condition, half vinyl top and all the goodies. 350 Rocket with a 4 barrel, Coustic am/fm cassette with an Eq/Booster and a pair of Jensen 6 x 9's in the rear deck. Wow that lead sled would go.

1970 Camaro Big Block with a Muncie 4 Speed Rock Crusher tranny and outfit with the same radio as in my Cutlass.

I bought the Cutlass and dad helped me buy the Camaro.

The first car I ever bought brand new, 1990 Pontiac Bonneville SE with Sunroof and spoilerm AM/FM/CD and Power everything.

My first driveble car was a 1948 Oldsmobile two door sedan. Straight eight engine. Bought it for $50.00 and drove it for six months. I ran out of gas one night and made the mistake of leaving it parked along the road. The Sheriff took exception to the fact that it was a little way out into the traffic lane and towed it off. They wanted $62.00 for towing charges. I couldn't see bailing out a $50.00 car for more then I paid for it.
At the same time I bought the Olds I also bought a 1953 Studebaker Commander. Someone had shoe horned in a v-8 Buick engine and a Packard Tranny with an electric over drive. The Stud had 11" slicks on the rear. After loosing the Olds I got it running but only managed to keep it for 3 months. It was great! You could cruise down the street in 2st and over at about 35, then punch the over-drive button, dropping it into straight second and nail the throttle. The damn tires would start smoking and the ass end would go side ways. Sadly the Sheriff took exception to my antics and he impounded it. Can you tell I was on a first name basis with the Sheriff? Well to be honest, almost all the law enforcement personel in the county knew me on sight. Hammer, I also got a little carried away in my youth. Got a ticket in the National Park for doing 110 in a 25. I think the fine was $200.00. Hell now they'd put me in jail and throw the key away!

damn. i'm still driving my first car.

1986 toyota camry. the salt for that wound: it was already 10+ years old when I got it.

1988 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet--I started working at our family's investment firm when I was 12 and had earned enough to "pay" (not really) for my first car and so I chose a Porsche Turbo. It was way too fast for a 16 yr old--got a lot of tickets, but learned how to drive and handle a superlative sports car--wish I still owned it--much faster than this "piece of shit" Boxster I currently drive--

I had an 85 Ford Tempo. It was red, but when I got it it was sort of orangish and whenever you touched the paint it would stain you. I turned the engine and tranny into a lovely pair of matching rocks, cracked the block, and managed to go through 8 right rear tires and 4 batteries in the 5 month period of time that I drove it.

The stereo turned on whether the car was on or not, my brother would go out to it at lunch and then leave the stereo on.

I never checked, changed, nor added essential fluids, if you're wondering why I wasted the power train. In my mother's words, "Ladies don't do those sorts of things. That is what we have men for. Getting dirty."

I don't believe in paying for full serve, nor did I want to disobey mother. :D

(traded up for a truck when I killed the Tempo)

A 1967 candy apple red restored Mustang. Hated having such an "old" car, but my dates seemed to like driving it. Didn't realize what I had until dad bought it back so I could buy a Mercury Cougar. Dad still has the car but refuses to sell it to me now. Stupid teenager, huh? Maybe he'll give it to my son, and then he'll be as stupid as his mother was. *hoping*

First car that I drove extensively, though technically it wasn't mine was an 81 Subaru Brat, we had a lot of fun four-wheeling in that little gal, especially with friends in the jumpseats in the back.

First car that was actually registered to me was a 1978 VW Dasher, silver, 4 doors, that was a great little car, had over 200,000 miles on it when I passed it on to my cousin so I could get a car with air conditioning.

Speaking of cars...

...gosh...I've sure lusted after a lot of the cars you guys had...Studebakers...'cudas...drool...drool...drool.

Had a lot of cars since that first one, but what I really, really always wanted was a Mercedes. I drove a '65 about 25 feet when I worked at a Gulf station and feel in love with it. People in my family didn't own Mercs...and didn't talk to people who did.

Well, they stopped talking to me when I moved to England so...guess what I did? I bought a Mercedes! The whole world of driving changed when I got into it. Even though it will blast down the motorway at 140 without even breathing hard, I changed. I was no longer in any hurry. I let other people pull over in front of me and happily wait in long queues of traffic...in complete comfort. It's so weird what the Germans do with this car. Brakes stop on a dime. Suspension supple and limber. It feels like it's latched down on rails and 100 feels like 60. Maybe a BMW or an Audi feels the same way...I dunno...but there is that emblem up on the grill...

CD that emblam is just so you can line up targets better.

My first car was a Honda Civic, Rust on Blue. At had a Hondamatic transmission and was so small that you sort of put it on, rather than got into it.

Totaled it one night when some dizzy woman decided to stop in the fast lane to answer her cell phone.

Hey, I'm late to this party but what the heck

My first car is truly too embarrassing to describe. But my second one is equally as bad so I will fess up.

It was a 1975 AMC Pacer (handed down/used/old) Does anyone remember those stupid 'bubble' cars?

I felt like a retarded Judy Jetson. And what made it even worse was the fact that it couldn't achieve anything higher than 45 mph. So I couldn't outrun the taunting, laughing and derisive jeering!

Rust on brown...

...say...I used to have one of those. A 78 Civic coupe with a 1200 cc engine. You're right...you had to wear it. I can't believe I used to commute 130 miles a day in it. I'm surprised I still have a back! Have to admit...it was reliable and went forever on a tank of gas. Hondas...I had three...were the most reliable cars I ever had. Sold my 87 Accord before I moved here with 329,000 miles on it and...get this...it still looked and ran great. Broke down twice. The first time it broke down (180,000 miles) I confidently hopped out, popped the hood, and realized that I didn't have a clue how anything under there worked! No more filing down the points or fiddling with the carb...I didn't have any idea how it all worked...called a wrecker! Turned out to be a worn out distributor.

Sometimes the derision can be turned to an advantage. Right after my Stud was impounded a friend acquired a 1963 Ford Anglia. That car was ugly. It was suppose to be white, but it had faded to almost a gray, with streaks of rust on it. We took a hammer to the muffler, knocked it off, and added about 500 pounds of lead to the trunk. We would pull up to a stop light and sit there with the choke pulled out. The damn thing would chug like it had a full cam race engine under the hood. When the light turned green Richard would rev it past red line and pop the clutch. It didn't have enough power to turn over the tires, but because of all the weigh in the trunk the front wheels would come off the ground. Got some really great stares and shocked looks with that car. We took it into the National park one night. We drove around the gate that stopped traffic when the road was closed because of snow and drove until that poor little car couldn't go any farther. Then all six of us piled out, grabbed a hand hold and turned it around in it's own tracks. Except for some foot prints, it looked like a car had stopped and disappeared. I'm sure the ranger that followed those tracks up the hill is still wondering what happened.

I know what you mean, Angel. I have 3 cars and I know that I have to sell one, trade in another, and keep the 3rd for work transportation. I have a:
1986 Cadillac Cimmaron
1987 Plymouth Colt DL
1990 Chevrolet Beretta GT
I am presently driving the Cadi, the Plymouth needs transmission work, and the Beretta GT needs some mechanical work but refuses to die. It is damn reliable and has a better GM stereo system than the Cadillac.

Mines a 91 beretta gtz. Cherry Red :) It's my baby. Right now I need a water pump and a new head gasket tho. ::sighs:: And this right after the new tranny and thermostat and temp sensor.

Damn chevys..gotta love em.
