Okay, so I installed zonealarm on Luna's computer, and now the Windows/Microsoft Firewall is off and will not let me turn it back on. So now she's getting five thousand annoying IE popups. Any advice? Nothing that's being done will seem to let me turn the firewall on. I even tried turning off the ZA firewall. Help fast. Totally unprotected at the moment.

:eek::eek:

1: try uninstalling Zone Alarm.
2: try using Firefox
3: if all else fails, try using Windows Restore to get to a restore point before you installed Zone Alarm

We ARE using firefox.

I only know how to restore original settings. I'm retarded when it comes to restoring to any other point.

Click Start, then select Run, and then type "Restore" in the dialog box. It should come up with a calendar of Restore points. A new window will open, double click on "Rstrui" (Microsoft Restore Application). Select a date that corresponds to before you installed ZoneAlarm.

You will not lose any work, or damage your system in any way by using the Restore function.

to do a system restore (assuming you're using Windows XP), go to Start-> Program Files -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
On the window that pops up, select "Restore my computer to an earier time" (should be default anyways), then click next.
Then, on the next screen you should see a callendar with (hopefuly) several dates in bold. Click one one of those dates (probably a date before you installed ZA).
Then, click one of the times that's listed next to the callendar, and click Next.
Then, click Next again, and let it do its work. Hopefuly this should work.

What windows version are you using, Trinique? Also what Service Pack? Generally the windows pop-up blocker and firewall are seperate.

I used to use Zone Alarm but gave it up. Now I use PC Tools Firewall and am a lot happier.

IE popups or Zonealarm alert notices?

When I first installed Zonalarm I was amazed at how many and how often it popped up an alert for a blocked attempt at access. It didn't take mem very long to get tired of the immediate alerts and turn them off (with the check box on any of the alerts to stop showing that particular type of alert.)

After the first couple of days, with Zonealarm configured for "stealth mode" the alerts of all types (as reported in Zonealarms log) dropped off to only a few dozen a day instead of half-dozen a minute. (I just checked the zonealarm log and I'm getting enough hits that immediate alerts would be extremely annoying but still nothing like when I first installed Zonealarm)

As for Windows' firewall, it's not designed to work with another firewall and so it won't come on when any other firewall is installed (or at least it's not supposed to.) If you want to go back to using the Windows Firewall, go to your Start menu and find the Zonealarm folder -- click uninstall Zonealarm (which should immediately inform you someone is trying to remove it. ;))
