Fire Side Dancer

Rahn arrived at the center of the village without being followed by anyone. The sounds of men cheering eachother on could be heard and louder cheers when someone succeeded in hitting the target. The center of the village was not empty. There were men relaxing and talking and women going about their work. Rahn then noticed Tora sitting by herself mending clothes. He walked closer and heard her humming. It sounded nice and he smiled. He moved close to her and sat down next to her. "Wow, a great voice and a great seamstress too? Is there anything you can't do with grace and skill?" He smiled over at her, hoping he had not surprised her too much by not making sure she knew he was there first.

Tora was off in her own little world when she heard Rahn's voice and he sat down next to her, startling her slightly she poked herself with the needle. "Ouch," she said setting down the cloth and sticking her finger in her mouth. Her brothers would have scolded her for not paying attention to what was happening around her, she was happy it wasn't one of them that had surprised her. Looking over at a smiling Rahn she smiled back at him from around her finger. "I wouldn't say a great voice, maybe an okay seamstress out of necessity. When you have three brothers you have to lean to fix things so they will last." she said taking her finger out of her mouth. "What are you doing back, I heard you were giving lessons? Have you ditched your students already?" she said smiling as she inspected her finger.

Rahn felt bad for surprising her so that she pricked her finger with the needle. He smield at her modesty about her sewing ability and voice. The he laughed a little when she asked abotu his students. "They are not really my students. I just told them what they need to know. Now they just need practice. you can hear them cheering eachother on just outside the village. they don't need me there. They can all shoot a bow. The problem was just practice. I'd rather just relax right now."

Tora smiled when she heard Rahn laugh, she liked the sound of it. "You might be right, but now that you have come along it will make them practise so they can be as good as you. The men of this village like to compete," she said picking up her mending now that her finger had stopped bleeding. "Well your welcome to relax here with me," she said smiling at him as she started sewing again. "So do you have any family with in the village?" she asked. Thinking of how she had seen him alone this morning for breakfast.

Rahn laughed a little again when she said the men liked to compete. He did not mind if someone got better than him. The point was that they would practice which would help on the hunts. He smiled when she invited him to sit with her to relax. Then she asked about family and his smile faded. he tried hard not to think of his mother. "Not that I know of. My mother came from here, so I must have some relatives here, but none that I know. I lived with my mother for my entire life until now. It was just the two of us. She didn't tell me of any family members I might have."

Realising she had brought up something she shouldn't have she instantly regretted it when his smile faded. She liked his smile, "I am sorry, I didn't realise." She suddenly went silent. She didn't know what to say now to him. Not wanting to upset him she said whispered, "You and your mother must really be close." Now she was thinking of her own mother. She set her sewing on her lap and just looked at it.

Rahn looked over at her and realised she felt bad for bringing it up. That made him feel a little better. At least she was not trying to hurt him with his memories, but he felt she needed to know. "We were close........ She...... died. That is why I am here now. She told me that I should find the village and join it. So after burying her I started to search for the village. Now I'm here. For most people I am just the new guy. Only a few of the elders know who I am."

Looking over at him as he spoke, listening to every word he said. "It must be hard loosing her, I wouldn't know what it's like to be alone. I have always had some one there. My parents and then my brothers." Reaching over hesantly she touched his leg slightly, "I am sorry for bringing it up, and making you hurt. But now that you are here you are among freinds and family." She smiled at him hoping she would see him smile again.

Rahn looked over at Tora when he felt her touching his leg slightly. As she continued speaking he started to smile again. "Thank you for saying that. I need to remember that. It was tough when I got here because no one knew me except for a few elders who knew my mother. I hope it will be easier now. If I ever start to forget, just remind me."

Tora's smile brightened when she saw his smile return. "That's okay, I won't let you forget. It's always tough when you amongst new people and in new places. Any way if any one gives you a hard time, just tell me and I will give them a yelling at," Tora said laughing, "Though I don't think you will need my protection." Realising she still had her hand on his leg she removed it and looked down at her lap. "But if you need anything mended let me know and I will fix it for you."

Rahn continued smiling at her. When she offered to protect him he laughed a little. At her offer to mend things he smiled more. "One of the last things my mother did was mend everything I had. So right now I have nothing with holes in it, but if I need things mended and it is not too much of a bother for you, I will let you know. So, what else do people do around here when they are not hunting, eating, watching beautiful dancers by the fire, or doing small tasks?"

"Oh it won't be any bother at all," she said smiling. Tora blushed as he said beautiful dancer and then looked away for a second till her face returned to normal colour. "What ever they want really and what ever catches your fancy?" finally she put the shirt back in the bag that sat next to her and threaded the needle into the side of the bag. Then streaching her legs out and streaching her arms up she smiled at him. "There are many things, like games, as I said the men like to compete and there are walks through the forests or in the feilds, beyond the camp, there's riding. What ever you feel like as long as it isn't braking the rules of the camp."

Rahn was a bit surprised to see Tora blush and turn away. When she smiled at him he smiled back and thought for a while. "I don't really know the games that might be played here. I will have to learn those later. I also rode fairly hard on the hunt, so I don't want to strain my horse too much today. The walk sounds nice. A calm stroll through the forest might be a good way to pass the time. Are there any places I should go see around here? Or is walking randomly around good as well?"

"Any way you are better of getting the men to teach you the games," she said frowning slightly. Some of the games that were played the men did not let the women take part in and Tora found that unfair. "Some of the new ones tend to walk randomly to better get to know the land around the village. But there is a stream that cuts through the forest and meadow and leads to a small waterfall, not far from here. It very nice there." Tora tried thinking of others sights that might interest him. "There are other places but you will have to ask others about them and some times it is better to just explore your self and see what you come across. Sorry I don't get to explore much around this area as the others of the village do. But I would like to one day"

Rahn listened carefullly and the stream sounded nice. He would also have to just explore at some point in time. When she said she did not get to explore much, he felt bad for her. "Well, sounds like I know what I'm doing. I'm exploring, and you are coming with me. I'm sure that any things you still have to do today can wait. If not I can help. I had to learn some things from my mother to helpo her out, so I can help you too. I may not be very good, but it will give you time to come exploring with me now." He smiled at her and stood up, extending his hand to her.

When he said he knew what he was doing Tora smiled at him, happy she had helped. But she was shocked when said she was coming too. Quickly she thought of the things that she had said she would do today, all of them where things that could wait. And any way the offer to explore sound good to her. Taking his hand as he offered it she stood up. "Okay, thank you for the offer of your help, but you are right and they can wait. I just need to return my bag to my tent and then I am ready."

Quickly she ran off with her bag, heading in the direction of her tent. When she got there she set her bag of clothes in the corner and left to go back to Rahn. Tan was talking to some of the elders not far from the tents that his brothers owned and saw Tora leave her tent. He saw she was smiling and wondered where she was up to. He would find her after he finished talking with the elders.

Tora smiled as she joined Rahn again, "Okay ready."

Rahn smiled at Tora as she agreed to go with him. As she ran off to her tent he made sure he was ready. He got some water and a little food to take and then waited for tora to return. When she did he gave her another smile and then walked with her to the edge of the village. When they got there he looked around and though of which way to go. He had no preference so he turned to Tora. "Which way shall we go today?"

"Umm," Tora looked around and then randomly picked a direction. She was excited to be going explore with Rahn, so she really didn't care which way they headed. Setting of in the direction she had chosen she strolled along smiling to herself. It was a nice day, the sun was shining and Tora hummed as she walked.

Rahn looked at the direction she chose and started walking with her. It was definitely a good day for a walk. He gazed around at the beauty of the area where the village was situated. Then he heard Tora start to hum. As they walked he listened to her. She had a nice voice. Her words were always soft and sweet, and when she hummed she carried a beautiful tune. He could not stop himself from looking over at her. He nearly had to force himself to look away so she didn't see him staring.

Tora continued to walk always slightly aware of Rahn by her side, but the walk held her attention. As she walked and hummed she thought about all she knew of the village and the land that it was on. How the village had grown as she had and how the land around them had kept it's beauty and still managed to provide for them. They soon reached the edge of the trees and Tora skirted them. Walking between there shade and the light of the sun. She looked over at Rahn and smiled at him brightly.

They reached the tree line and Rahn smiled at Tora as she looked at him. He liked seeing her smile. He looked around at all the trees. the land was very nice. He had never really gone for a walk to enjoy the beauty of nature. He had also never been in the forest with a beautiful girl before. It was definitely a good way to spend time. He turned back to Tora again and smiled once more. "I'm not sure what is more beautiful. The land around the village, or you. If I had to pick though, I'd pick you."

Tora blushed at his words, and for a couple of minutes she didn't know what to say. Shuffling her feet slightly she looked back at him, "Thank you but I think the land wins that competion." she smiled and her cheeks slowly started to return to there normal colour. "Also I wouldn't say that to loud, some one might hear you and it might get back to my brothers." Tora looked up into the trees and seeing the lights braking through the leaves. She knew what would happen if her brothers found out he was saying something like that particularly if they found out the two of them where out here alone. But Tora didn't care.

Rahn smiled as she blushed at him. When she finally spoke again, he dissagreed with her, but did not say so. He just continued smiling. She stopped blushing and said something that was confusing to him. "Why would it matter if your brothers found out I think you are beautiful?"

"Well, ever since our parents died my brothers became sort of protective of me." Tora shrugged, "they have a tendancy to chase off any man that shows interest in me and your comment there would have sent warning bells off in there heads." Tora took a couple of quick steps ahead and spun with her head back. "It's just there way of taking care of me, I guess. But it can be a pain when you are trying to get to know people."

Rahn was a bit surprised to hear about how her brothers seemed to want to protect her. He felt that there was no reason for them to be worried about him. He would not harm Tora. He smiled over at her. "Well, I guess we will have to spend some time together where no one can hear what I say, because I can't help but comment on your beauty."
