Hi everyone

i was reading a random post from some random website and read about a Dom who does fire play lectures and demonstrations. of course i was called away just as i was starting to read about it. only impressions i got were they were actually talking about "burning" flesh...singeing etc. Of course i couldn't follow up and find the posting again. was wondering...

this is a bit to extreme for me to even consider, i understand how some find pain erotic..but for heavens sake, burning of the flesh? when does pain not become erotic but simply...well for a lack of a better word Pain.

am i all wrong in thinking that "fire play" actually involves using fire to burn human skin?

has anyone seen or done this type of activity and would like to clue in 'the clueless' on what actually occurs during "fire play"?

would you ever consider this type of activity? and how can one trust the Dom/Top that is administering the pain? aren't there big time safety considerations?

Would love any feedback on this...Thanks

Cheers Skye

cool thanks morninggirl...should have known there would be a thread about it.

i have been mastering (at least trying to) this play for awhile now. and so far what i have been using and doing involve no pain to really speak of, it's more like an "over coming the fear" type thing

Fire play almost never involves actual burning, skye. In fact, it's often much more of a mindfuck than any kind of sensation play.

There are two big strands of fireplay--those that play with heat (candle wax, for instance), and those that play with live fire.

Personally, I've a foot in both camps (true to form).
Playing with heat can be incredibly intense sensation, but it doesn't really mark the skin more than a few hours usually. At least, so long as one plays with relatively low temp candles, or if one has heat-resistant skin, like this ex-waitress.

Playing with live fire reddens the skin to a nice rosy pink, but doesn't usually mark at *all*. I usually use rubbing alcohol, thickly coating the skin. Then, ignite. It burns off quickly and anywhere that keeps going, and thus gets too hot for the sub/bottom, can be brushed out with a quick swipe of the Top's hand. But, the MindFuck of it is incredibly intense. I mean, after all, you're letting someone light you on fire.

It's very fun. I highly recommend it. On either side of the match. ;)

Me scared of fire, RS.

Eb <yes Eb can be scared>

rs what do you use to ignite? i have been playing with a bunch of differant ways including the voilet wand (which still scares the crap out of me when it lights)

I just use a regular old safety match, those long lighters you use to light a fire in the fireplace. I'm not into electro play. Ironically, that stuff scares the bejesus out of me. Go figure.

so far the way i feel the most comfortable is with a 12" wooden skewer and a lit candle near by

Must admit this is one area I am not begging to try. I have known of one person who died due to a fireplay accident and their partner served a sentence for manslaughter. Has sort of made me a little less wanting to go there.

I personally have never tried it nor seen it for that matter. However, a friend of mine and her Dom have recently started to explore the avenues of fire play. As much as it had frightened her in the beginning, it ...well, she loves it. She's begged me on a few occassions to try it. I highly doubt I'll ever go down that road for personal reasons.

Yeah, I know of someone who died in a car crash and the other driver went to prison, so I don't drive anymore.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. ;)

'Tis OK...the temptation was great I admit. The difference being though I feel at least I have some control over the outcome when I am behind the wheel of the car, at least most of the time. I have a reputation for quick reactions when other cars and trucks head in my direction...not so sure about if someone were about to set fire to my back though.

bumping this thread...

i'm not sure this is something i'd want to participate in, i'm not a risk taker ... what exactly about this play gets you off?

let me count the ways...
the fear and overcoming that fear, the pure trust i must have, the sight of flames dancing on my body, the depth of care He must use, the look in His eyes as He ignites knowing i trust Him fully, the pure raw excitement, knowing that He has the ability to control an uncontrolable element, feeling the coolness of the alcohol and the warmth of the flames, the sound of His voice as He talks me thru it all

be true to yourself,

hmmm...not going for another smart ass remark...this isn't exactly the same I realize, but this theard reminds me of a girl I used to be friends with, she did poi ( I am not sure if that is how you spell it, so forgive my ignorance) anyway, firedancing...and I went to several of her shows...she clad herslef in black leather and did amazing things with instruments I don't even know the names of...including breathing fire, and her grand finale included a stunt where she would light parts of her body on fire. It was beautiful, and very erotic to watch..especially when she performed outside at night...and even though she was very responsible with what she did, and always took precautions...I do remember an couple incidents that landed her in the hospital with second degree burns...not only on the outside of her body...like I said, even though its not the same thing, it is still enough to make me not all that interested in attempting it...the idea is throughly intriguing though...

Couple of fire things

I've done fire play a few times and the subs absolutely loved it--probably for all the reasons that have been listed. I must admit that they loved it a lot more than I!

I cut the rubbing alcohol with water--about 3 parts alcohol to 1 part water. Rubbed it on whatever portion of the anatomy was to be lit--usually the breasts--and lit it with a q-tip I'd dipped in the alcohol mix. Let it blaze for a brief time and then run my hand up the slope of the breasts to extinguish it.

I think it's real importance is as a mind-fuck, but that's for a sub to say. I do know it's one helluva party trick--and if you can have one sub willing to do it as a demo, you can usually find others who are willing to expand their repertoire.

A caution: don't do this while clothing is being worn. I once did the tops of my sub's breasts while she was wearing a corset. I'd forgotten the law of physics that says liquids follow gravity. Flames under her breasts, covered by the corset, were not enjoyable. We got them extringuished before there was any damage--but I've always thought that was lucky.

Also, if you're going to try this (Doms can try it on their arms first to see what it's like--at least that's what I did), have water, ice cubes, and burn ointment handy.

Finally, I must admit that the idea of trying to light it with any electrical device scares the hell out of me! Sounds to me like a wonderful way to get electrocuted.

love, love, love fire play

what gets me off?

It's very tactile and sensual...hands on skin, heat, all yum for me, very almost relaxing.

More erotic is the violet wand creating the spark...it's beautiful to watch and more intense play for me in terms of "getting off".

At the heart of it all though is the trust. I'm terribly afraid of fire, it has been a recurring nightmare of mine, so when I'm at that place of trust. Yeah. That's what does it.

yes it is.

Thanks to everyone who provided so much information on the subject. Even if it wasn't for my educational purposes alone.

I'm really tempted to go smear the bathtub with a little alcohol and see this trick at work. However, as I currently enjoy the shape of my eyebrows, I think I'll hold off until I've read the articles through a few more times...lol
