So I just published my first effort (thanks for the positive feedback to those who commented.) It’s going to be a rather long series. I have the first third well in hand. And I have the last third mapped out pretty well. I am not entirely sure how I’m going to connect the two.
Anyone else ever have this problem? How do you work through it? Any advice?
Thanks,
Newbie author.
Two more pieces of advice (you can't get enough, can you?):
1. Don't sweat it too much. Just make yourself write, try to stay on track, keep up with the publishing. If you take a long time between published chapters, you'll lose readers. Don't worry about being perfect. If it's your first story it won't be. Just keep writing.
2. Consider taking a break from your long series and writing a short standalone story. I've done this and it's nice to take a break from that feeling of having to keep up a series. Sometimes I find an idea comes to me for a short story and I can get it done fairly quickly. It's a nice change of pace from a long story. Sometimes when you take a break from a story you'll have a better idea what to do with it when you come back to it.
