How does one find an editor?

I had one reader provide positive feedback on a story and made the suggestion that I use an editor in the future. I tried using the option of selecting an editor and letting the literortica.com email contact them. Neither selection worked. I sense there is more than just sending a form email through literortica.com

I had selected one candidate and watched the form letter go out to them asking them to become an editor. The first one ignored the email. After a few weeks I selected another. The second responded said yes, but after sending the story to him, I have heard nothing else for weeks.

Is there another way to do this?

If you're the person who asked me, then I'm not ignoring you - I just haven't had a chance to answer e-mails. I'm in the middle of uni exams. Will get back to you when I have a spare second.

Generally speaking, you can ask a noted Literotica literati and see whether they say okay. If they don't have time or can't be arsed, then ask another and another. Only way I know of.

TheEarl, you are not the one

Earl,

I would think you would know who asked you given what I've seen in the form email. I know you were not asked by me. And you should also know I am not the one who asked you.

Ah okay. I didn't realise that you'd used the form both times. Mine was in an actual e-mail.

Try asking people with lots of stories who post on the boards. Or going sniffing in the Story Discussion Circle.

Head over to the Editor's forum and ask around. It's probably easier if you find someone who is a regular there that you can interact with.

Good luck.

I'm lazy, I love editing over writing anyday.

It's hard to write sex scenes when you have nobody to inspire you.

Any volunteers? lol

:p

You might also try the story feedback board. That and the story discussion circle are good places to meet people interested in writing and editing. Once you get to know a few, you'll have a circle of friends to turn to.

I would also add that the best way to get editing is to give editing. If you're not sure that your spelling and grammar are good enough to do proofreading, offer story editing. There are lots of people who just want to know if the plot's good and the characters make sense. If you post on the story feedback thread and offer an exchange of services, you might have some luck.

To TheEarl, Liar, doormouse, and BlackShanglan… Thank you all.

I have noted that each of you have responded from a position of experience.

As I am starting to learn, there is another way to do this, and I appreciate your suggestions.

Now I need to act on each suggestion.

Thanks again
