Finding a job

You've got a few options.
1) go back to school for something else, more specialty, whatever. You can get government money for this and defer the cost to a large degree. Basically, you wait out the economy and hope that with enough education you can get a leg up over your competition when you get out again.
2) Suck it up and stick it out. This method requires the least amount of work/effort and provides the least amount of happiness/satisfaction. There is a correlation here.
3) Move. If you are flying solo and aren't tied to a house, you have a certain amount of mobility in your living requirements. Move your job search to an area of the country where the job market isn't so depressed. Some areas of the country are at 10% or worse unemployment, while others are only down to around 4%.
4) Just keep improving your resume and job hunting and wish for the best. I think there is an old saying about wishing in one hand and crapping in the other, and seeing which fills up first...
5) start your own company. This requires the most amount of work. Working yourself like a dog. Slave labor style work. BUT, it has the perks of being one of the most lucrative options if you make it work, and that you can choose what you are doing for the maximum enjoyment in your job. An added benefit to this, is if you start a company in a depressed economy, and you actually stand to make money at what you decide to try to do, you can start employees out at a relatively low wage and benefits, as they are just happy to have a job (like you used to be!!!). Of course, this option has the greatest opportunity for failure, and personal cost. Its probably a net positive on your resume though, success or failure.

Don't make the mistake of leaving a job that is paying your bills in this job market. I had thought I would always be able to get a new job when ever I want. I have down sized my expectations dramtically and still have no job offers. I have an inerview Monday. :)
