....permanently. Some of you have been nice, but others have mistaken my prediction of likely revolution in Sweden in the unlikely event of anti-male discriminatory policies to be a death threat. Absurd and hurtful. Bye bye.

Ah... Brings back memories...
About four years ago, I got my ass involved in a flamewar and was trounced unmercifully. Damn, that smarts!

In a similar manner to Severus, I was trying to promote a veiwpoint that no one was interested in. The majority were perfectly happy with things as they were, and I was upsetting the boat with my complaints.
Interestingly, it was just about this time of year. Xmas brings out the uglies, if you ask me!
I learned a lot from it, though. I look for forums that are congenial to me, in the majority. If I find that most people seem to me to be *cough* intellectually beneath me- or inversely, too damn smart for me- or mostly right-wingers or exremely religiously oriented... then obviously, it's not my comfort zone, even if we do share other interests.

I did return to that board a few months ago. Some of my old "enemies" are still there- many of my old friends too.

Anyone else have battle stories?

I tried that, but I got tired of reading "Peanuts." I decide to brave those who are more clever than I and see if I can learn from them.

I did learn this long ago, and try - sometimes with gritted teeth - to keep to it: one should not bray back at a jackass. It helps one's enjoyment of any forum, I think, to recognize that some people are best neither encouraged nor replied to. Once I acknowledged this and placed a few key players in that category, I found my experience more congenial and more pleasant.

I have, of course, learned this as well. Stamping off of a forum in a huff is really one of the more amusing behaviors on Internet forums, and one I think best eschewed. No one who is sympathetic to one's cause needs the drama, and no one who isn't will react with anything but derision. Better to quietly go one's own way if one feels it necessary. If the forum is really so banal and unpleasant as to warrant leaving it, then who is worth impressing with one's exit?

I like that. It reminds me of a piece of Louisiana political wisdom: Don't try to shovel shit against a fertilizer machine.

Wish I'd thought of that one!

Shanglan- you, as always, have cut to the pith of the thing.

Learning to see the jackasses in time- before one tries to speak their language- that's a good skill to acquire as well...

Stella, you are the soul of tact.

Now then...

Just where is this absurd Sweden thing? It ought to be delicious.

It's a far far better thing to stir up the populace then to sit in the shadows and be ignored...

I just came up with that...yay me.

Sweden is absurd. And sometimes delicious. Not in the winter time, though. Unless you're heavily into sorbet.

Watched from the sidelines how the drama unfolded. Can't say that I still get it. Niether the people that got furious, nor his reaction to it.

Severusmax -I don't think our paths have crossed yet, so this is a rather late, and possibly redundant, welcome.

My advice is to take a step back and calm down a bit. It's very easy to get involved in the debting here and it can really get you angry and/or upset. At the end of it all, you just have to remember it's a debate and every person here is quite welcome to his or her views (sometimes because no one else wants them) and you just have to let'em get on with it.

Don't go. Dip your toes in other threads, avoid contreversy for a little while and get to know the people behind the debates, it helps, it really does.

Everyone -- EVERYONE -- even the most *cough* intellectually superior *cough* among us has jackass moments. They usually pass.

For the most part, I've found, folks here in the AH abide by the Golden Rule. There are (and always will be) exceptions.

Hey Imp, you want some cough syrup for that cough? Sounds bad.

Well im glad i answered his post..it seems to have brought eveyone out from the proverbial woodwork!!!!

there's always a method to my madness.. no matter how absurd it may seem..
thanks all

Alright, already! I decided to stay, thanks partly to some of your replies. Part of me also felt that I had lashed out in anger and now it has cooled off somewhat. I just know WHOM to avoid in the future. No need to mention them. THEY know who they are, these minions of the Orwellian left, whom I have decided not to give the satisfaction of driving me off. They will just have to deal with my "cliches" and "empty rhetoric" for a while longer.

Once again, thanks to those of you who have been nice, even when you didn't agree with me. Civility in debate is a good policy, indeed.

Ooh yay! Welcome back then Severusmax, it's a pleasure to meet you!

The more the merrier here, the more diverse the better. If we all thought the same way, life would be sooooooooo boring :D

Thank you, my dear lady. (As you can see, I'm still trying to follow my recent policy.)

All you can be expected to do is try your best :)

My mum is always telling me that!

Once again, thank you, my dear lady. That is just plain common sense. Which reminds me of Benjamin Franklin's quip that "common sense is not really that common". :D
