This is a game about the events of Final Fantasy VII, but with some major differences.

Old legends say that Mother Jenova, the White Goddess, created the world and planted the seeds of life on the scattered islands of the Great Sea. On most islands, humans rose up and formed tribes. Eventually, they created boats and met and traded with the tribes of other islands. Civilization emerged, but soon the Tribal Wars started over islands not already claimed by a tribe. Some islands were very small, while other were monumentally big.

The Tribal Wars lasted for many generations. Some tribes merged and other vanished completely. In the timespan of about a thousand years, the world went from thousands of tiny tribes to dozens of huge ones. There came a time when only thirteen tribes were left, each controlling many islands.

As the centuries passed and civilization advanced, the thirteen tribes endured, and eventually became the Great Thirteen Kingdoms of the Ancient World. They were:

Quinn
Genolia
Braska
Zanillo
Jarazil
Nippon
Jorgany
Larsalem
Udorrea
Sandora
Spira
Ivalice
Basil

Over thousands of years, there were many wars, and as the world entered the middle ages, there were Five Great Kingdoms left.

Quinn
Braska
Nippon
Genolia
Jarazil

Of all the islands of the world, the biggest was Durella, which was like a small continent. All the kingdoms longed for this island, and it was the cause of many wars. Eventually, in 1642, the Five Kingdoms signed a treaty and each got an equal section of the massive island. They all set their new capitols on Durella, and for a time, there was peace.

On the distant islands that no longer received as much attention, crime and violence increased, and rebellions were formed. They were crushed, only to rise up again a few generations later. This cycle continued on as the world entered the Industrial Age.

In the mid 1900s, a young boy named Gavin Shinra found himself disgusted with the world and the long history of war and violence -- his father was a soldier of Quinn, and had died in one of the rebel riots. He decided the only way to end the wars would be to take over the entire world.

As Shinra reached adulthood, his belief in his idea strengthened, and he began to put it in motion. When he was 24, he managed to be elected the Senator of his native island, which meant he would represent that island in the Grand Senate of Quinn. From here, he began to manipulate people and events, eventually becoming the Vice President. When the right time showed itself, Shinra assassinated Quinn's leader, becoming the new President at age 31.

Over his seven years at the capitol, Midgar, he had managed to assemble a large following, all agreeing with his ideas of a united world. And so, once he was President, he won the majority vote of the Senate due to his followers -- legally, he could declare war on the rest of the world.

At first, he offered the other four kingdoms the chance to willingly unite, but all of them refused. So, President Shinra sent his armies out over Durella, taking the entire continent in under three years. The other four kingdoms relocated their capitols to other islands, and began forming a resistance.

Over the years to come, President Shinra conquered one island after another, adding to what he called the United Republic of Quinn. Genolia eventually surrendered and joined Quinn. Braska fled to the far north, where Shinra would not follow due to the harsh conditions of the islands up there -- constant blizzards and mostly frozen seas. Jarazil fled to one of the bigger islands down south, Naranam, and hid deep within its jungles.

Nippon was the only one to stay and fight, but doing so meant many of their Ninja Masters were captured and forced to train Shinra's elite soliders. They eventually had no choice but to flee as well, creating the hidden city of Wutai.

With most of the world conquered and his enemies in hiding, Shinra turned his focus to technology. He eventually discovered that Mages of the old world still existed, and that they used their magic by summoning Mana from the Lifestream. By forcing many of them to work for him, he managed to compress some of their expelled Mana energy into a glowing green liquid -- Mako. Mako turned out to be an extemely valuable asset, working both as a major fuel source and a product for genetic engineering.

Shinra created the Mako Reactors, which pulled Mana from the ground, turned it into Mako, and then fueled his empire. By crystalizing the Mako into Materia, people could become like Mages -- a Mage has a natural connection to the Lifestream. If a normal Mage could fly across a canyon, the Materia orbs acted like a jetpack for those that could not -- in other words, Materia gave people that connection to the Lifestream, meaning ANYONE could become a Mage.

So, I'm thinking we set this story right about here, after Mako Reactor Technology has changed the world. This is before Sephiroth goes nuts, I'll play him and Cloud as friends and all at first, and as the story unfolds, Sephy will change. Shukaku may be playing Aerith and Tifa, though she hasn't officially claimed them yet. Other than Cloud and Sephy, I will play Barret and the two Shinras.

Other than Shinra's normal army, navy, and air force, he's got his most elite force, the Vipers (elite soldiers trained to use Materia and instructed in the art of Ninjutsu by the captured Nipponese Ninja Masters). Above the Vipers are the Turks, which are more like intelligence agents and operatives than soldiers. They answer directly to the Presidential Cabinet (The Cabinet is made up of the President, Vice President, and key leaders of various departments and functions. The Cabinet was created shortly after Shinra disbanded the Senate after a majority vote gave him that right. Those who were loyal to him were granted seats in the Cabinet.).

So, whatcha think?

Sooo you get to play the characters with all the main plot development? I might be interested but not many others I can think I'd like to play as. Cid perhaps...

Well, I'm playing Sephy and the Shinras because they are the main baddies and I need them if I am going to give our chars adventures, lol. I am playing Cloud because he's awesome, and Barret so I can coordinate Avalanche's missions.

Would you be interested in an OC? I have an idea for a sexy female mercenary...

Okay, I'm thinking of a girl who fights with giant, razor-edged fans- That can be safely furled, of course- who dresses in an oriental-style cheongsam (When 'casual'), or in the more standard leather bodice. Goes by 'Stiletto', though probably has another name. Very much the seductress, and prefers to use her feminine wiles to infiltrate...

Her materia slots in her weapons are on the 'wings' of the fans, which get more gaudy, and more lethal, as they upgrade. She's linked to the element of wind, and Limit Breaks are themed accordingly...However, she has the stats more of a second-line fighter, than a spellcaster.

How about something like Kei-Lin Litchi as her name?

Cool. I assume she's Nipponese? BTW, Nippon is what the Japanese call their own country in the real world. The word Japan is just want English-speaking people call Nippon. So, I decided to use that name for the oriental of this world.

Also, we will not be dealing with Limit Breaks or upgrades as they are dealt with in the game. I mean, you can't pull up a stat sheet on yourself in real life, lol. Basically, people have their Limit, the amount of Mana they can safely summon at one time. A Limit Break is when they exceed that amount, giving them temporary "above-average" abilities. However, doing so is risky. If you go too far past your Limit, you risk physically harming your flesh by the sheer amount of energy being channeled through it. In the ancient legends, there were Mages who summoned enough Mana to destroy entire armies, but the surge of energy tore their bodies to shreds in the process.

Hmmmm, I think I'll just say she's from Wutai, which is basically an oriential mashup- I'm thinking Kei-Lin's more Chinese than Japanese, anyway, which explains her unusual choice of weapons. I get a little antsy when there's too much deviation from the setting.

Also, I hope you can keep the whole psuedo-cyberpunk theme going...That was a great part of the world. ^^_

Go cyberpunks! As for Wutai, I already said that's a hidden city the Nipponese created after they were forced to flee Shinra. I was hoping they did not know where it was yet, but this gives me an idea:

Maybe she is a secret agent sent from Wutai to help Barret assemble Avalanche? She could be sort of like their guide, helping them externally because they don't want to reveal the location of Wutai just yet. Whatcha think?

A wild woman like an Amazon or something maybe not even human a fighter who refuses weapons or armor. Maybe she can transform into different creatures like a fast, strong form and others. She would be uncivilized thinking of sex like shaking hands and would be very rough. As for names well I have not thought of anything yet but well I welcome help.

Yep, sexy secret agent. I'd go with Kei-Lin; Just a rough description, here. Think one of those lissome girls...Definitely womanly, but agile and toned, more on 'speed' then strength. Give her matched twintails, trailing from long black hair done up into buns...

So, she fights with those razor-edged fans, which can expand tremendously into a nightmare scythe-like form. I'd like to make her something of a biker chick, too...Think glossy riding leathers, presposterous high-heeled boots, and a half-unzipped coat, with glasses. ^_^

This should be fun.

Rabbit, your beast-woman sounds cool. And Iridium, that sounds cool too. Maybe spies from Wutai -- certain Ninja Masters who pretend to serve Quinn but secretly are still loyal to Nippon -- have informed the Nipponese Emporer's advisors that Army Colonel Barret Wallace is the best chance at a rebellion within Quinn. Secretly, they have observed his conversations with close friends in the bars, and discovered he hates Shinra and wants to see him removed from his post. Rather than revealing themselves, the spies ask the Nippon Tribunal to send someone to make sure the rebellion happens. Your char shows up one day in Midgar, tricks Barret into revealing he wants to start a rebellion, and then she pledges to help him and says he has the support of Wutai. Whatcha think?

Mmmm, I like it. Except, of course, that she'd probably play it more mysterious, and provide data, backing and support...Without telling him who she's from. Obviously she has a powerful backer, but an *anoymous* one, who stays that way.

Everything else sounds great, too. ^_^

I was also thinking maybe their journeys take them to the hiding places of Jarazil and Braska, and then eventually to the hidden city of Wutai. Then at some point, Sephiroth claims to have seen Mother Jenova, and says she feels the Earth's pain. He then sets out to kill President Shinra, and succeeds. But stopping the man who created the Mako Reactors isn't enough. His thoughts become twisted and he deems all of humanity harmful to Mother Jenova. Thus, he sets out on a quest to slaughter every single human, eventually using a massive Limit Break to try and pull an asteroid that was supposed to miss the planet. This is proof of how far gone he is, as the asteroid would damage the very planet he is trying to save. Maybe they convince him of this, and at the last moment, Sephiroth shows he has some good left in him and sacrifices himself to blow up the asteroid.

That sounds a trifle odd for a self-proclaimed omicidal maniac, but eh. It'll be a while before we reach there...As long as there's plenty of chances for Kei-Lin to fall afoul of men and monsters alike, in suggestive ways, it's all good. ^_-.
