Figging

Hey ya'll. I want to include a figging scene in an upcoming story, so I figured that the easiest way to describe the experience would be to get some hands on experience. While I've dabbled with anal play in the past, I never have tried anything that burned (cept for some icy hot). I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I'm still a bit worried since I've seen some conflicting information about figging. Long story short, I have these questions:

1. Is there any risk of actual damage? I thought it would just be like a hot pepper on a tongue but I wasn't sure.

2. How long does the burning last after the finger is removed? If it lasts a long time, what's a good way to relieve the pain (I figured washing it out would be fine but I wasn't sure)

Thanks for your help

You'll probably get more useful information if you search the BDSM board (I know I've seen threads on figging) or start a thread like this one on that forum.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should post there or here. Thanks for the tip!

What are you planning on using, ginger or some sort of pepper?

Fresh ginger is most common and it's a slow-building burn. There are ways to prepare it that will make it more intense, including refrigeration and cutting slits/slices in the knob so more of the flesh is exposed and juices come out. For self-play especially, it's best to carve a large knob into a modified hourglass/buttplug shape so it doesn't get sucked in and can be removed easily.

It shouldn't cause any damage or lasting effects for the vast majority of people, and IIRC, it resolves within 20-30 minutes. Washing it out should relieve the burning. You could try ice for this if you don't want to go the enema/anal douching route. However, I'm guessing you'll be just fine with, especially if you start slowly and work your way up.

As Eilan said, there's great info on figging in the BDSM Talk forum. Have a look at the Library sticky at the top of the forum and do an advanced search of that forum with 'figging' in the thread title. There are also detailed instructions on how to search using Google (it's a much quicker and easier method, IMO) in our FAQ sticky near the top of the main How To forum page.

Regarding risk, I recall reading somewhere that, if in doubt, tape a slice/slither of peeled ginger to say the inside of your forearm for an hour or so to check out any unusual reaction that could indicate an allergy. Not sure how likely that is, but I believe for some people it is a possibility.

Very good advice. I'm allergic to cinnamon. I can eat it, but if I get cinnamon, or cinnamon oil which shows up in some massage oils and soaps, on my skin, I break out with major hives and swelling. WHile it's not dangerous to me per se, it is a major buzz kill to the mood.
