Dan Willis sat at the wheel of his BMW Coupé, waiting for the lights to change.
Suddenly he had a gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Had he filed his latest chapter in the usual folder, or had it been saved in the general ’My Documents’ folder?
He kept meaning to change the default settings, but never got around to it.
His daughter, Lilly, used the computer to do research and write her essays for College as well.
Okay, she knew he was a successful freelance writer, but he was sure she didn’t know what kind of stories her Daddy wrote.
He had always been protective of his only daughter, but since his split from his ex-wife, he was even more so.
It wasn’t his fault, though. His wife had been playing around behind his back with a colleague at work, and when he found out, he threw her out, in a fit of rage.
Only later, did he realise he now had to bring up a baby girl alone.
That was eighteen, nearlx nineteen years ago.
Yes, he’d made sacrifices, but when he looked at his beautiful daughter, Lilly, it was all worth it.
She was smart, athletic, popular at College, she seemed talented in almost everything she did.
Now, due to a moment of carelessness, as he rushed to get ready for a meeting with a publisher, did he fear he could have ruined her innocence. He hadn’t even remembered shutting the computer down, in his haste to leave the House.
He knew he wouldn’t get back home before her, as his meeting was due to last until 6pm. She would have been home from College almost two hours by then.
He dreaded to think what she might find!
