OOC: Basic rundown of what's going on: It's been about 250 some years since the Light Warriors defeated Chaos and broke the time loop. For a while things prospered, but eventually, no longer having to unite for survival against the minions of Choas, the countries grew angry with each other, and eventually war broke out between the humans of Corneria and the elves of Elfland, with Pravoka and Gaia siding with Corneria, and Crescent Lake siding with Elfland. The fighting eventually died down, and it's been several years since there's been a skirmish, but both countries are still 'officially' at war.

The world has changed quite a bit in the past two and a half centuries. For example, Pravoka and Corneria are now connected more or less directly by a land bridge that rose from the Aldi Sea, which continues through the outer seas to connect Pravoka with Crescent Lake through a long winding pass through the mountains. (I'll post some maps once I get around to making them.)

Oddly, monsters have recently begun to surface again, prompting the people to take up arms and spellbooks in defense of thier homes.

If you want some more info on the original Final Fantasy, it can be found here. Also, this is pretty much an open thread, so post if you want, just try to keep things from getting too outrageous.

Regardless, on with the story.

IC:

"You're one a' those black wizards, aren't ya?"

She lifted her head from the bar and stared under the brim of her pointy yellow hat with glowing eyes. "How'd you guess?"

"I seen a coupla your kind in here before." The bartender replied, a balding middle-aged man who was getting soft around the middle.

"You don't say." The mage replied, sitting upright on her barstool. Her voice emenated from deep within her face, all of which save the eyes were hidden from view by the collar of her cloak.

"So you wan' anythin' to drink or not? I got a bizness ta run here."

The mage reached under her cloak and tossed a pair of coins on the counter. "Whiskey."

The man reached under the bar and set a bottle in front of his customer. She picked it up and slid off her barstool. "There wouldn't happen to be a magic shop here, would there?"

"Two blocks east."

She nodded her thanks and left the bar, blinking as she emerged into the midmorning sunlight. With a resigned sigh, she pulled the cork form her whiskey and took a swig. She'd come to depend more and more on alcohol lately to ease the stress of her lifestyle.

Replacing the cork and tucking the bottle away in her backpack, she started down the street toward the black magic shop, hoping to find something useful.

OOC:

I find it very hard to beleave no one has replied to this yet. Well if you can get some one for close comabt I'll be happy to join as my favorit chara of the first game, the red mage. But we need some one to play the theif, figter, or black belt.

OOC: her's the Discription of the redmage I promised.

Name: Daln
Class: Red mage.
Hair: Silver
Eyes: Blue
Build: slender and light.
Outfit: Red cape and hat. A brown short sleeve shirt and brown pants. A leather belt with a small buckle. A leather bag he keeps his thing in, on his left side with a strap over his right sholder. A silver sword on his right side with a leather hilt.

Bio: I'm keeping this to myself. (I haven't made one just yet.)

He sighed, leaning against the small shop where he'd just unloaded the last of his armor. It was a trajedy. The same armor which had saved his life, time and time again, and all he had to show for it was a handful of coins that wouldn't buy a whole week's worth of food. All he had left was his sword, and his fingers curled tightly around the hilt, possessively.

That he would starve before selling. Although that day would come. It was not a good time to rely on the sword. Although at war, there was no fighting, and no need for new soldiers. At the moment, he was desperately striving to make ends meet. There was a small market in clearing out monsters, but it wasn't wise to go at that alone, especially now that he had no armor.

He sighed, and looked across the street. A magic shop stared back at him. Pushing himself off the wall, he decided to go have a look. Not a whole lot else to do, besides, it might take his mind off the hunger gnawing away at his stomach.

OOC: Here's the first part of the world map. I'll post more if it becomes relevant. My character (whatever her name is) is in Pravoka.

OOC:

That was the place with the pirate ship right? Weather or not thats the case I think I'll start in the town the pirate ship started in.

OOC: Yeah, that's the town in the top right corner. The one to the west is Corneria and the southermost one is Crescent Lake.

IC: She pushed the door open, the bell above the door jangling as it was momentarily displaced. The smell of dust filled her sinuses. Obvously this shop wasn't often patronized. A sign hung outside with two staves -one black, the other white.

She glanced around. The shop was rather standard as it's kind went, with books, scrolls, and various oddities -drakes eggs, lizardfly wing clippings, and tailhairs from a chimera, among others- resting upon the shelves.

She approached the nearest shelf, climbing on a stool to compensate for her diminutive stature. She selected a book and began paging through it. After a moment, a figure appeared from the back of the shop. "You need help findin' anything?"

She glanced up to see an middling to old man leaning on a cane. "No, I'm fine thanks."

Nodding, he turned and limped over to a chair, easing himself into it. "Let me know if you find anything you like." He picked up an enormous tome from the table next to him, opening it to the page marked with a thin strip of cloth.

She replaced her book as the doorbell rang a second time, a man appearing to be a soldier stepping through the frame.

IC: I found myself walking to the magic shop again. I don't know why I kept comeing there. I had no need to be there I had the spells i had any interest in.

Stoping there I leened against the wall. "Why do I even bother. I need to leave town or something because life her is so dull." I sat down on the ground there. I wraped my cape around me and ducked my head, my hat makeing me a red lump against the building.

In he went. Why not? He had absolutely only a very basic understanding of what magic was, some the magic shop would be a nice little treat of things he didn't understand. And looking at things he didn't understand might help him forget the problems he did understand-like the fact that he needed to eat, had no source for money, and had just sold the last of his armor.

The man who owned the shop looked up, but didn't move because of two obvious things, the first being that the man who had just entered had no clue what to expect to find, and was one of those rare and curious people who simply looked at the shelves for a few minutes, that, and the obvious fact that he was poor.

Shifting his sword, the poor soldier moved to the side, so as not to interfere with any other people who might enter, and glanced around the shop, at the shelves, the owner, and the mage. He watched the mage for a few minutes, then turned his attention to a nearby shelf and the ever peaceful pastime of wondering what the objects could be used for, and overimaging completely.

She watched the newcomer from the corner of her eye. He watched her for a moment, then turned his attention to the various oddities lining the shelves.

Without warning, the sound of an enormous bell rang throughout the town. She dropped her book and turned to the other patron. "Come on!"

"What? What is it?" He was obviously confused.

"The town! We're being attacked!" She exclaimed as she bolted out the door. She didn't bother to check on the soldier -every second counted.

As she reached the city gates, the gravity of the situation sunk in. This strike was unlike any she'd seen. Hundreds, possibly thousands of twisted unnatural beasts lined the northwestern horizon. Her stomach knotted up. The town literally had no chance of winning this battle.

She swallowed hard, not noticing the cold sweat that suddenly covered her body. She let out a small, helpless wimper.

"Better part of valor," she whispered to herself as she turned and fled. She only hoped that some of the others had enough sense to realize the hopelessness of trying to fight this battle.

He followed the mage out into the streets. An attack? His hand clenched at the hilt of his sword. At the city gates, he saw what was attacking. He looked around the town. Victory was not an option. Too many people were already running, the mage included. He snorted, and drew his sword, glancing across the number. He'd say it was likely to be eight of nine hundred.

He slowly began to move backwards, and then he turned while sheathing his sword, and began to run. Many others were getting the idea, although he spotted a few brave souls standing to protect what they had. Every now and then the soldier would stop and tell one of them it was hopeless, but he kept going, always aware that his survival hinged on how fast he could run.

For the first time, he was glad he had sold his armor.

After a few minutes, he began to take stock of where he was, and he noticed a figure not to far ahead. With a burst of speed, he caught up with the mage.

"I'm not too familiar with this area, where the hell are we running?"

She skidded to a stop, unable to speak due to her shortness of breath. She hunched over, hands on her knees, trying desperately to catch her breath.

She wiped away the sweat dripping into her eyes, looking up at the soldier. "There's... a pass through the mountains," she panted. "If we hurry and don't stop, we might be able to make it to Crescent Lake in three or four hours."

"But aren't the mountains dangerous?"

She gestured back at what remained of Pravoka. "You're welcome to head back that way if you like."

"You have a point."

"We should hurry," she said, heading south again. "Oh," she stopped and turned to face him. "I'm Kitty."

He took this time to rest. He didn't need it as bad as her, seeing as he was used to running in full armor. Without it, he was finding the task of running easier. He followed after her, mainly because she seemed to have some idea of where to go.

"Hello, Kitty. My name's Odin. Nice to meet you." And again he took up running, but bothered to glance back at what was going on behind them.

It was not a good day for the citizens of Pravoka, and, unfortunately for many, it seemed to be their last.

OOC: A girl named Kitty.... Okay the story finally got my atention.

IC: *Dong, Dong, Dong* I raised my head my eyes barely open. Many people where rushing to the gates, but then again even more people seemed to be rushing the other way. I smiled and stood up. Life just became less boreing.

I walked to the gates to see what was comeing. A gaint army of enemys where there. "A swarm of monsters what a new experince." The creatures where advanceing slowly they'd be here with in ten minutes. Ten minutes was a long time to stand, especilyy when I expect something to happen.

I sat down and waited for the charge. The time seemed to be that of an entire life. Monsters traveled slowly in an organized hord where as I was one of the fools standing against them. Around me where reckless young men. People boarded and people looking to prove them selves, these people where my kind.

I stood up and drew my sword to make myself ready like the rest of our pitiful herd. We where pigs for the sloughter, but at least I wouldn't have to contiune liveing boared. My silver blade was ready and a vast army of Ogres, skelitons, and trolls where advanceing ready to fight. A smile came to my face. "This will be fun while it lasts." 'Are you jokeing?' A young fighter had droped his sword and wa now looking the other way. 'Do you really think we can win.' "You kidding we don't stand a chance in hell. But it's going to be fun.' The little man turned and ran for the hills.

OOC: I must know more of Kitty... much much more.

IC: As my eyes open, the sky was brite. I was either out an entire night or a few short minutes. I didn't hear swords any more. I looked up and about. The town was destroyed and still burning. It was night after all. I stood and grabed my silver sword. I was luky to find it and luky to be alive.

Throwing it under my claok I began to walk to the hills and the next town.

Kitty and her companion walked for quite some time, occasionally stopping to rest.

"How far is it now?" Odin asked during their fourth break.

She glanced at the sky. "We've been walking about seven hours... maybe another fifteen minutes."

She dug her canteen out of her backpack and took a drink, then replaced it and adjusted her hat. "You ready?"

"Yeah. Let's go."

They continued on thier way, even though Kitty's legs were killing her. She wasn't nearly accustomed to walking this long or far. The length of her companion's stride also forced her to walk faster than normal. She cursed her short legs for the umpteenth time that night, but nevertheless she determinedly placed one foot ahead of the other.

The pass suddenly widened to reveal a bay with an island in the center, connected to where they stood by a land bridge several hundred feet accross. Upon the island rested a rather larger city, easily three times the size of Pravoka. Kitty breathed a sigh of relief at the sight. Her feet felt like two enormous blisters, her back was stiff, and all she wanted to do was find a place to lay down and sleep.

A sliver of sun appeared over the eastern sea as they neared the city walls. She glanced to the north. Distant wisps of smoke were just barely visible over the mountaintops. Surely she wouldn't have been able to see them if she hadn't been looking for it. She sighed and shook her head sadly. So many innocent lives lost...

She shrugged it off as they entered the city. She glanced up at her companion. "Well, now that we're here, what do we do?"

He consdiered for a moment. "City hall. We should alert the mayor." He turned his attention to the city. "You wouldn't hapen to know where that is, would you? I've never been here before."

"Yeah, I know." She lead them through the streets, eventually arriving at a modest brick establishment with a sign out front declaring it the Crescent Lake City Hall.

They proceeded through the unnecessarily large door and approached a counter where a bored middle-aged woman sat, idly flipping through a stack of papers. She glanced up. "Can I help you?"

"We need to see the mayor, immediately." Odin answered.

She shook her head. "I'm sorry, but the mayor isn't here at the moment. I can schedule you in for this evening though."

"Dammit, you don't understand! This is a matter-"

Kitty cut him off. "That will be fine, thank you." She reached up and pulled Odin down by his shoulder. "She's a bureaucrat." She said so that only he could hear. "It's useless trying to argue with them. It only makes things harder."

"If you don't mind." The woman behind the counter interjected. "I'll need your names."

"Odin."

"Kitty."

She wrote something on a leaf of paper she had in front of her. "Very well. I have you scheduled for five this evening."

As they left, Kitty turned to Odin and said "I really need some rest. I'm heading to the inn."

Name: Teal
Class: Thief (my favorite :D )
Build: Lanky
Features: Green eyes and blue hair; wearing tattered rags
Personality: Sarcastic and Immature

ic: A slight breeze blew around the inn as people walked about hurridly. A blonde-haired lady was walking along and managed to trip on the bottom of the door as she was leaving. Suddenly, a young man caught her as she fell. He helped her to her feet.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Yes. T-thank you." The lady asked. She walked shakily down the road, watching her step the rest of the way. Teal smiled and waved to her as she went. When she was out of sight, he opened his other hand, revealing a pouch of gold. He smiled to himself. Suckers!

He tossed the bag into the air with a whistle and caught it again. He loved this job. Much better than shining swords for a living. He was getting some good food tonight. He turned to leave when he saw a black mage walking down toward the inn. Black mages = robes with lots of easily picked pockets. A smile pursed on his lips. Well, well...maybe he will be getting a good place to sleep tonight as well.

Odin

Odin shrugged and followed along after the black mage. It seemed odd to him, the whole 'bureaucrat' thing. In any decently planned city, especially of this size, there should be a city guard. To inform them would be helpful.

But, it was better to tell the mayor, as the mayor would look towards the life of the common people. Head of a city's guard would likely just send men out on a patrol, not caring about the risk of not informing the city people.

He raised his arms above his head, leaning back slightly as he yawned. "So, this is Crescent Lake, huh? Pretty big place."

Daln

IC: As I walked towards the mountins I wondered if the town would be there. A beutiful place, such peace.... prehaps it will be gone now. Prehaps I will get there in time for a rematch.

Teal whistled to himself as he watched the mage walk toward him. He noticed a rather large man with a large sword walking by her. He hoped he wasn't with her; he hated dealing with body guards.

He waited for the duo to pass him before he swooped in behind them. He cautiously dug into her robe pockets until he found a small leather pouch. Bingo! He pulled the money out and sneakily placed it into her own pockets. He noticed the guy she was with had a money pouch as well. He decided to press his luck and snatched his money as well.

Suckers! Teal smiled and tiptoed away, hoping neither of them noticed.

Odin

He stopped, turning, and reached out, his fingers grabbing at the thief's clothes, and pulling the man back.

"A helpful hint for your future. If you're going to rob someone, don't steal for someone who only has six coins. Poor people tend to notice when their money disappears. So why not hand it over before I'm forced to gut you? Hmm?"

Teal froze in place. It looked like he wouldn't be sneaking off that easy after all. Well, he wouldn't appricate it so much if he didn't have to work for it. He immediatly slipped through the loose-fitting shirt, leaving the man's grasp. He tried to grab Teal's neck, but the thief was too quick.

"Sorry, but to the thief goes the spoils!" Teal taunted. "You'll have to catch me first!" The man reached out again, but Teal performed a double backflip, avoiding the man's arms. With a quick smirk, Teal dashed off down an alley way.
