So, SuicideGirls jumped the shark and now they are going crazy on some amazing and well respected photographers. One in perticular is a photographer known as lithium picnic. This photographer has decided to fight back, after being threatened with a 100k lawsuit if he does not stop shooting for "competitors". (Apparently his own wife's site is a "competitor") Seeing as photography is his life, work, and passion, he has no intrest in caving to them. Unfortunatelly, to even start to fight back he has to have money for the laywers and court.
If you want to read a great atricle about the issue you're welcome to check out altporn.net's article

Other then that, you can help AND in the process get a BEAUTIFUL piece of artwork by buying a print. There are multiple shots there that can appeal to the fetish side of sexuality, and it's really amazing work...

Thank you!

Mods- If this is too much of an advertizement like thread, i will remove the call to buy prints, but if I could at least keep the main thread topic up so that people can learn about what trash the SG management machine is, that would be great. Of course, leaving the call for prints would be even greater... it's for a just cause and all.

I have to admit SG is pretty unique in their original idea... punky pin*ups - but have been copied a bunch for a long time, and there were people before them... they did take it and run with it though.
So... I guess they have a right to get mad and lose their minds... but then wouldn't Satan's Cheerleaders have the right to go nuts since SG did a burlesque tour? And what about people like Bridgette Harrington doing shibari with body modified fashionistas... ? Or porn stars like BellaDonna... tattooed, funky, crazy, fetish, sex...

All SG could patent is the photography style I suppose - no one else can do pin*ups of punky beauties?

I dunno... art, freedom of speech, expression ... No one truly has a leg to stand on in this battle. Everyone is competition nowadays....

unfortunatelly in SG's desire to corner their market they are killing the livelyhood of some great photographers, who arne't even trying to hurt SG's market.

there are so so many fetish photographers trying to break into the world... I've been in front of the camera alot lately, I have another shoot saturday actually. To be noted, even in your region is a big deal... but there will always be pioneers and those with the luck/money to become famous. There are thousands of 'noted' but few as famous as Midori, Bridgette, SG, Lithium... those with the little extra spark will stick out of the crowd ::shrug:: just like tattoo artists or pizzerias lol

the way to get ahead in this globalized internet savvy world is to find a niche and become important with a unique product that sells to many (who pays well, and is cheap enough to satisfy a large amount of people). ::shrugs softly::

Have you heard about the porn site hanger? There are a bunch of personals sites, all made by this one company... they took over an airhanger in San Fran I think... pay people for their time if they're in the area - models, riggers for shibari, liquid latex etc etc etc... this dude covers such a large amount of personals sites (i could be wrong, but i think its the bondage.com/sister sites empire...)... the money flowing in is craaaazzzyyy... and no one wants it in their town, some big law thing is going on. Someone in my munch group informed me about it...

He found his niche, became important with a unique product... available to people for a price... built an empire... and now is a force that can't be reckoned with.

imagine if SG was just a little bigger, or if they are in fact big enough to screw everyone else trying to make it in this market? makes me sad, but oddly proud.

yay sexuality overcoming the norm!! but i hate sibling rivalries...

I have no problem with the thread content. Haven't looked into it as I am just waking up, but my thoughts are no-one has a right to limit art by trying to own any particular style and I am sure Suicide Girls did not create this style so what right do they have to make themselves self appointed owners of any particular form of creativity. Someone should remind them Punk was around long before they heard of it and decided they liked it so why then are they allowed to promote it given their obvious way of thinking? Greed is a dangerous and destructive thing.

SuicideGirls is definitely the most successful altporn site on the net currently. It was probably also the first altporn site to actually make a bunch of money.

Unfortunately, SG has some really shitty business practices. Photographers aren't the only ones they're abusing - they treat models poorly too. What I don't understand is how a porn site can get away with treating its photographers and models so badly and still get customers. I guess the news just isn't out there enough about what an asshole the site owner is. (I'm talking about Sean Suhl here, not Missy - she's just a figurehead.) The guy is a walking, talking, misogynistic freakshow.

I used to want to be on SG, even up until recently. I knew Sean Suhl was a prick but I still thought the site was cool. But after reading an old issue of Bust magazine in which SG is ripped to shreds by former employees, I don't want to anymore. They are just a bad outfit all around!

(It's nice to see that altporn.net still links to CyDyBlog, which is one of my sites...woo hoo! Even if it is buried in the sidebar.)

This is all very interesting to me as I have two good friends who are heavily involved with SG and have never heard anything bad about the owners/management.

You can find a lot of information by googling for 'anti suicide girls' (no quotes).
