Feminine? Oui ou Non, -La Poesie...

Personally a man who can write poetry to me is a beautiful thing...it doesn't mean he's feminine. It means he has deep feelings that he is willing to show....instead of being the kind of guy who gets all mad and yells when he's feeling something, like most men i know. I'd love to have a man who could write me a poem....or two....or 500 ;)

btw...that was a great poem :D

Not feminine exactly

To me sensitive is enough. A sensitive man who can write poetry (esp. in French) is a gem.;)

Being a poet, I have had many men write poetry for me and there was no question as to their masculinity. They are able to express feelings, thoughts and pull from deep inside. It is one of the most sensual gestures a man may do for me

Not all poetry relates to things feminine. There is also a vast quantity of subjects on the darker side of reality. Therefore writing poetry does not make a man feminine.Sensitive maybe,creative-deffinately.Just the opinion of a bloke who writes some!

Well, I am not knowing much about poetry, but the three most feminine guys I've ever known never wrote any. Whatever that amounts to.

One guy I knew in college (ha) wrote poetry and gave it to all his friends, the problem being not that it made him feminie, but just that is was really really bad stuff and we were always embarrassed by it.

Bob Dylan writes poetry? ('these visions of Johanna are now all that remain' being my fav) and he is not feminine, just nutso?

LOL

CB--

I don't find Donald Hall, William Stafford or Robert Bly feminine. :)

Anyone find our poet laureate, Billy Collins or Pulitzer winner, Carl Dennis effeminite?

Even if they were, I'm wondering if or what relevance that has? Are you asking if being creative and artistic is a feminine trait and therefore any man who is artistic is more feminine than most men?

Peace,

Votre Français n'est pas mauvais. Je l'ai compris.

I don't think poetry is masculine or feminine. It is an expression of the author.

Your French sounds good to me Celestial. This thread here, largely poetry which carries messages of love, is full of classics by men and women.

Greeneyedgirl's "Is romance a dead language?" also touches on the gender issues you broach here. I've learned a lot from that thread - a good number of men have contributed to it.

I don't consider myself a poet, but sometimes it just comes out, in the most romantic moments, like a burp at the end of a good meal.

Is poetry feminine? Are men who write poetry necessarily effeminite? What about songwriters, are not lyrics simply poetry and prose put to music?

If I say yes does it make me an asshole?

Okay, yes.
:)

Well, not necessarily, but the two do tend to go together sometimes... Ah, nevermind, I'm an asshole.
