april-wine said:Pedophile, is exactly what I thought....Sorry a teacher should not be having sexual relations with a 14 year old student....

Do you have any more info about that? Further details?
(Please don't think I'm getting off on it or anything -- just curious)
killallhippies said:not pedophile, but close enough. she was in a position of power over the girl and therefore had absolutely no right to engage in any kind of relationship with her. it would still be wrong if the girl was 17 or 18 just not as wrong.
what shocks me the most is the fact that she actually married her.
The latest story all over the news is of 36-year-old Elizabeth Miklosovic, a teacher in Michigan who has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl who was a former student. She has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and suspended from teaching; many news reports also mention that the two were wedded in a pagan ritual. They had known each other for several years, and the relationship began as an emotional connection that progressed into physical contact.
There is a huge difference between this story and that of Mary Kay LeTourneau. Although her relationship involved children (ones she already had, and ones born to her by preteen Vili Fualaau), it was heterosexual and fairly normal in terms of kink vs. vanilla. Miklosovic's relationship, though, was lesbian and involved witchcraft. The religious right is going to jump on this story even more rabidly than they did the LeTourneau saga.

The article lacks a few very important details: was the girl openly gay/bisexual to start off with? May we presume that their relationship was entirely consensual? And as for 'illegal sex acts', it comes back to the old truism that nothing is as bad as what we can imagine for ourselves.
This is a very tricky issue, where it would be all too easy to fall prey to spouting ridiculous or extreme views. I for one am reserving judgement. How can we judge without all the facts?
WHERE THE FUCK WERE HER PARENTS?

I have one thing to say...

As a former Wiccan, I definitely agree.DarkAurora said:A lot of people already have very obstruct ideas about wicca/paganism and think it has something to do with the devil(which is completely false and very offiensive). Most pagans would be very outraged that a priest or priestess would perform a marriage ceremony involving a minor.

Yup. I'm funny that way.Stuponfucious said:So I can call you a dyke AND a witch and you won't be offended? Not that I would want to.
Actually, the term is just "witch" for both males and females who practice Wicca. The clergy are referred to as Priests and Priestesses.(Oh, and let me guess not all Wiccans are witches or warlocks, only the clergy)

It's not too personal. I just kind of grew out of it. Paganism was the last religion I actually practiced on a regular basis. I was born Jewish, raised Unitarian Universalist, and became a pagan (Wiccan) as a preteen. Then I went to high school and I just didn't have time for religion anymore. I still don't bother with it. I'm not a religious or spiritual person at all. I identify mostly with the UU church because that's how I was raised, but I also identify as Jewish a little bit because that's my cultural heritage. I'm an atheist, though, and I haven't been to church in years and years.Stuponfucious said:BTW, if it's not too personal, why did you leave the Chur...err, Coven?
