female teacher wed's 14 year old female student.

Pedophile, is exactly what I thought....Sorry a teacher should not be having sexual relations with a 14 year old student....

not pedophile, but close enough. she was in a position of power over the girl and therefore had absolutely no right to engage in any kind of relationship with her. it would still be wrong if the girl was 17 or 18 just not as wrong.

what shocks me the most is the fact that she actually married her.

Interesting...

Do you have any more info about that? Further details?

(Please don't think I'm getting off on it or anything -- just curious :))

Outside of the fact that she was only 14, that's my biggest problem with it.

Here's what I wrote in CyDy Blog about it earlier today:
The latest story all over the news is of 36-year-old Elizabeth Miklosovic, a teacher in Michigan who has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl who was a former student. She has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and suspended from teaching; many news reports also mention that the two were wedded in a pagan ritual. They had known each other for several years, and the relationship began as an emotional connection that progressed into physical contact.

There is a huge difference between this story and that of Mary Kay LeTourneau. Although her relationship involved children (ones she already had, and ones born to her by preteen Vili Fualaau), it was heterosexual and fairly normal in terms of kink vs. vanilla. Miklosovic's relationship, though, was lesbian and involved witchcraft. The religious right is going to jump on this story even more rabidly than they did the LeTourneau saga.

What strikes me as odd is the amount of 'outraged' comments in this article. What? Brainwashing? How the hell do you brainwash somebody anyway? The article lacks a few very important details: was the girl openly gay/bisexual to start off with? May we presume that their relationship was entirely consensual? And as for 'illegal sex acts', it comes back to the old truism that nothing is as bad as what we can imagine for ourselves.

This is a very tricky issue, where it would be all too easy to fall prey to spouting ridiculous or extreme views. I for one am reserving judgement. How can we judge without all the facts?

I agree very much that the older woman should be arrested because the girl was only 14. I just hope though that the news doesn't start saying that Pagans support child molestors and stuff. I'm sure the person who performed the wedding was lied to and was led to believe the girl was over 18.

at 14 I knew I was a lesbian, and she probably fell under the spell of an older woman, not to mention It was her teacher...double crush...

I have one thing to say...

WHERE THE FUCK WERE HER PARENTS?

we probably won't know any of the real details for a long, long time.

WHERE THE FUCK WERE HER PARENTS?

good question.

And by then the News may not be interested in reporting it anymore.

Yeah, that's what I want to know. I think it's completely wrong but don't think the woman should spend the rest of her life in jail. "might face"

This woman needs therapy and a lot of help. I'm sure the child is really crushed and confused, so that goes for her as well.

The teacher was not simply older than the girl. She was in a positon of power over her. In any book, that's statutory rape at least, regardless of whether or not it was consensual, and that makes it an illegal sex act. If the teacher were male, I daresay everybody would be screaming for his balls on a stick. That she happens to be female shouldn't change that a whit. I'm sorry, but this IS an outrageous case, assuming it's true as presented in the articles I've read so far.

It's not a tricky issue at all. All that remains is a trial to determine if it really happened. If it did, then I hope judgment rains down upon her head will utter ferocity. Abuse of children, in any way, should be among the crimes most severely prosecuted.

Not only that, but this stupid woman has lent credence to one of the most persistent and false myths that plague the homosexual community: that homosexuals are by nature pedophiles, and that the hetero folks need to shield their children from our clutches.

Etoile is right. The religious right can tear into this from all sorts of angles. They're going to tie homosexuals, pedophiles, pagans, and witchcraft into one neat little package, stamped with the evil of Satan himself, and ram it down our throats. Sadly, there are many out there who will prove all too eager to swallow it.

Teacher and girl

I have to agree, that assuming all the above is true.... An Adult has no right to touch a child.. PERIOD... I don't care if it is male female, female female, or male male...

I was sexually abused as a child, so i have no tolerance for it.. My abuser is still in jail... nearly 13 years later. He got 2 18-35 year senteces... They will not be letting him out soon. (In Texas fyi)

Sexually abusing a child is particuarlly wrong when it involves an authority figure.

If she's guilty let her rot in jail....

A lot of people already have very obstruct ideas about wicca/paganism and think it has something to do with the devil(which is completely false and very offiensive). Most pagans would be very outraged that a priest or priestess would perform a marriage ceremony involving a minor.

As a former Wiccan, I definitely agree.

So I can call you a dyke AND a witch and you won't be offended? Not that I would want to.

(Oh, and let me guess not all Wiccans are witches or warlocks, only the clergy)

Yup. I'm funny that way. :)

Actually, the term is just "witch" for both males and females who practice Wicca. The clergy are referred to as Priests and Priestesses.

Ah. So witches practice it, where as Priest/esses know how to pretty much do it on thier own? :D

BTW, if it's not too personal, why did you leave the Chur...err, Coven?

It's not too personal. I just kind of grew out of it. Paganism was the last religion I actually practiced on a regular basis. I was born Jewish, raised Unitarian Universalist, and became a pagan (Wiccan) as a preteen. Then I went to high school and I just didn't have time for religion anymore. I still don't bother with it. I'm not a religious or spiritual person at all. I identify mostly with the UU church because that's how I was raised, but I also identify as Jewish a little bit because that's my cultural heritage. I'm an atheist, though, and I haven't been to church in years and years.

I'm UU with heavy Jedi influences.
