Are male authors somehow less qualified as writers because they lack the ability to ovulate? I never truly understood the whole notion. Some of the best writers around here have a penis. Real ones even, not the store-bought kind.

Females are different

Sime years ago I found out that women are different.

I try to write some of my stories from a female viewpoint but I don't think I would convince anyone that I am a female writer.

Some male authors can, but I think more female authors can write convincingly from a male perspective than vice versa.

It depends what youngman21 wants. His post doesn't read as if he wants editorial assistance.

I appreciate feedback from anyone, but the most helpful criticism has come from fellow authors. If my stories have turned a male reader on, I pleased. If I have turned a woman on, I'm delighted.

Og.

Some male authors can write using female POV, some can't. Some female writers can write using male POV, some can't. Some writers will win Pulitzers, some won't. I doubt it has anything to do with gender, although I'm not sure of what goes through the minds of the members of the jury.

Seriously, though. That post definitely needs editorial assistance.

I need help;) Professional help. My keyboard is suffering from an overdose of coffee. So am I.

While I agree with you, KM, regarding some of the best writers around here being men, I don't have a problem with a male author wanting female input on a story.

Frankly, I have sought out male colleagues to do reality checks on several of my stories. I have also helped "estrogenize" a couple of stories for some of them. I believe one of my comments to a friend was "only women in men's fantasies ever think that way".

Knowing you have a weakness or a possible weakness and seeking out help is part of good writing.

So how do I de-caffeinate my keyboard and my head, please?

I think I know my weaknesses. I looked through the volunteer editors list when I started to post stories. I was looking for one who could help with the difficulties I had in constructing stories that were better than the ones I had already planned.

I couldn't find an editor that looked as if they could help.

So my weaknesses are a big head and a reluctance to admit that I could be wrong. I want to write better stories that are more generally accessible. I want to write the stories that are in my head. I can't because I do not have the skills to produce the visionary story. All I produce are faint reflections of what I want to write.

I need to study more technique. I should join a class. I tried but the tutor did not want me because I had a longer list of existing publications than she had. She couldn't see that there is a large difference between being published in technical journals and newspapers and writing creative fiction.

So far, I have found that those who post in the Authors Hangout have been more help than any other source.

Thank you all.

I wrote one very lengthy 1st-present male pov story. I struggled early on with the protagonist. A male author friend helped me tremendously in getting the "tone" of the male character right. He helped me "de-feminize" the male character, until I got it down the way I needed to.

I'm not exactly sure what the thread starter wants though. I wish he had been more specific about what his need was, other than just "help out" with his story. Is he struggling with his female character(s), the plot, or is he just looking to just chat about the story and pick up a chick in the process? Maybe he can clarify that for us.

I assumed he wanted a female writer so he could play cyber grab ass. I may be wrong, of course, but probably not.

Ps. We need to get our Muffies straight around here.
PPs. I need someone to take a picture of me with bare bottom and gun. I feel like I'm not keeping up around here.

Sounded like a chat-up line to me ;)

Like bridgetkeeney, whenever I write from a male POV, I get a man to read it and tell me whether I'm near the mark. Having never been a man or made love as one (except in a couple of rather bizarre dreams), I only have my imagination to know what it's like. So that male feedback is very important to me.

I think you may be right MG. He seems to have vanished. Gave us an excuse for another thread.

Who needs a straight Muffie? Nice convoluted ones are soo much nicer.

A picture with bare Muffie and gun would attract many more sycophants. Might be a good avatar for DG.

Maybe he wants to know what it feels like when a woman climaxes, or what being horny feels like to a woman. Or maybe he wants to know how buying a new pair of shoes can cheer someone up (sorry.)

Most likely, though, MG's right and he's looking to oodle someone's coo through flights of literary genius.

Periodically we go through this thing about whether there's such a thing as female erotica and male erotica. Well, periodically I do, anyhow, and I always get blasted for it because I think there is. Maybe not so much at the high end of the quality scale, but under the bulge of the bell curve for sure.

I'd even bet that I could tell the same story from two points of view and that there would be a very significant statistical difference between which sex liked which story. (All you have to do is write an erotic camping story where someone forgot the toilet paper and women would be out of there.) (Kidding! I'm just kidding!)

As for being able to write from the other sex's POV. Sure, why not?
"Once I found out that my husband Tim had forgotten the toilet paper, the camping fun was over for me."
See?

Hi, young man,
I'm a female writer around here as many can tell you and even a few that are not. It might be fun to colaboratte with a male masculine person on a storey or two but maybe not that many or just for fun while playing as MG mentioned cyber grabb ass.

Consider this a line droped as you mentioned above in your nice semiliterate (LOL) poast and you have a totally awesome and f'sure tubular day y'self.

*grin*

I LOVE THAT! (can I add that to my sig line?) I've never "oodled someone's coo" before but it sure sounds wonderful!

;)

Steal away.

I stole it myself from Kerouac where a whore says, "Hey why don't you oodle your coo with me, Mon!"

There's plenty for everyone.

I've always been curious to know exactly WHAT men do with their penises in order to deserve higher salaries.

Now KM and youngman21 have added to my confusion. What do men do with their penises if they can't write as good as women?

penises and pov

Hmmm. I think that it's always obvious in my (erotic) stories that I write from the Pov (point of view) of a woman. In other things I write, probably not.

In any case, I'm willing to review a story done by a guy, although not interested in cyber coo-oodling.

When I write from a man's POV, the character is usually how I'd like a man to be. Tender, sensitive, considerate...

Thank goodness most of my readers refrain from PM'ing me and telling me that these guys aren't very believable. I guess they just shake their heads and hit the back-button.

I've always found it very irritating that Black Lace consider me to be an inferior writer to every single woman in the world. Okay, so I'm no Shakespeare (barely even a Geoffrey Archer), but I think I rank higher than that.

Mind you I have had feedback from someone who assumed I was a girl and told me that my male character didn't act like a man would. Probably says a lot about my writing.

Aeh..!

It's like the comic strip I read, where a busty teenager was discussing the gender roles of today:

"Men today are such whimps. If you ask a guy if he's got any gunpowder in his balls, he immediately gets full of complexes, and go limp on ya..."

I'm wearing a red checked gingham dress. And army boots. Probably says more.

MG, why's your last post signed Muffie?

yeppers... I can relate.

I have no problem writing a story out, but I can't seem to fix grammer, and other such issues. I can't find why my story annoys me, just that it does.

The only feedback that is worth anything anymore is someone that can tell you what is wrong with it. That means another author, or an english teacher (but I prefer another author's opinion).

It's hard to read a ton of work to find another way to do it, because then you run the gambit of your writing sounding a lot like those authors, originality torn away. But then, somewhere you have to find the answers.

Not that I don't like being told "you are wonderful", "you are adorable", "I was so turned on", and "I want to smell your panties"; but it really does get old after awhile. Especially the last one.

I am kinda over the wanting my head to float away like a big balloon, now I want to be the best.

These forums you can get much better feedback, and less of the more annoying BS. So here is a good place. :) Just the right amount of goofing off.

I like these forums... but good news, I won't be here much after this weekend, on and off around my favorite hobby. So, one less of the annoying people to deal with. That should cheer up some people... LOL

Personnaly, Og, no one better decaffienate me, I am already having issues today. ;)
