FEMA, Sandy and the US Election

Obama is front and center in the briefing room.....a room he didnt visit in months, not even for Benghazi

Prepare for both to go on "survey the damage" trips. In other words, tons of resources will be devoted to their visits rather than disaster relief.

Have to give Chris Christie some props. He gave the President credit where it was due, and refused to play FOX's dumbass political games.

Can we all agree that Trump is the vilest piece of shit to come out of this tragedy? Extending his deadline? Talking about how the people in his Trump Tower were partying? Right. Asshat.

If you thought hanging chads in Florida was bad, it's gonna be nothing compared to soggy ballots in Virginia.

Honestly, I hate to wish ill will on anyone, but I wish he'd die in a fire. I HATE him.

Is the Tea Party and Republicans really so hard up on government spending that Romney can't even in the middle of a disaster say "No, I would not cut FEMA, it serves an important purpose and should be funded?" I would think that right now even the people who want it cut would kinda just forgive him for say. . .the next seven days!

Agreed. His hairpiece could catch a flame and then the people who are without power could roast some meat over him. He'd finally do some good.

Not vile, just a harlequin. His primary objective is to keep the spotlight focused squarely on himself.

ahh... as if it is not enough for the politicians to make this political the geniuses of lit have to as well.... can we at least wait till it is over?

A reporter asked Romney if he would end FEMA. I didn't make this political. I suppose you can claim that the media did but Romney's right there and there is only so much "The water is up to my knees" You can repeat.

It's a valid question and a yes or no would be easy enough to give.

Well, he could say it, but it would be yet another reversal of a previous statement. He wants to privatize disaster relief, or (at best) turn it over to the states. People need to know that this is what Willard means by the "waste and fraud" that's going to make his tax cuts doable.

Something interesting for voters in Florida to contemplate: do you all remember what tends to happen when FEMA is run by people who don't actually believe in the mission of the agency? When it's crisis time, it helps not to have a horse lawyer running disaster preparedness.

I have to admit I was surprised.
He's done stuff like that before. Like when he appointed a muslim judge and had to repeatedly tell the screechers on the far right to STFU.

The guy is a classic asshole (which is not nessecarily a bad thing), and quite often just plain wrong. But I get the sense he's not a bullshitter.

+10

and more than worth repeating.

It's indicative of how polarized the electorate has become when a governor praising a President for doing the right thing is "controversial".

Meanwhile, Romney has re-labeled his last minute desperation appearances in Ohio as "Disaster Relief drives".

As someone who has lived in Florida for a number of hurricanes, I can tell you FEMA is about as efficient as the Post Office or a VA hospital. It isn't. To suggest it does not need to be fixed would be asinine. Th red Cross and other volunteer organizations do twice as much with 1/4 the cash.

Want to revisit the 500 articles on Fema incompetence and fraud from the last 8 years?

Everything is political in this fucking place.

The hardcore derpers know how it's done.
