Now I'm actually getting some, I'm confused.

Excellent writing. Try it on a non-erotic piece.

What does that mean? Did they not like the sex? Do they think I'm a terrible erotica writer, but could possibly make it as a 'proper' writer?

It probably means that they think you should quit wasting your talent on smut or something equally exciting.

Two Choices

Earl,

Congrats on having recieved feedback... No more lamenting the lack there of. Now, the way I see it, you have two choices... One is to follow my typical course of paranoia and decide that the responder didn't like the sex, considered it lack luster but actually appreciated some of your writing skill. (Again, typically the way I go with this). OR you can decide to interpret the comment that it was a damn fine story, so good in fact that it didn't rely on the sex to make it worth while. Much harder to do but it is one way to think. I personally think the second route is the most valid in this case... Keep up the good work my friend.

Let us analyse this comment.
Excellent writing. I suspect that means that the commenter thinks your writing is of a high standard.
Try it on a non-erotic piece. I further suspect that the commenter is suggesting that you might enjoy writing a non-erotic short story. An alternative is that the commenter is suggesting that (s)he might enjoy reading a non-erotic short story which you had written.
On further consideration I feel that the last two alternatives are not mutually exclusive.

Does that help?
