Feedback rant

As i said in my last post, I've been away for a few years, but I came back to rewrite and continue some of my stories. My issue is, someone left some feedback a couple of months ago complaining about a left turn of the MC of one of my stories, which is fine, but I am writing that one in particular as a proxy to me. My issue is, they had a lot to say about the biology or trans women and spoke down to me as if I hadn't a clue what I was talking about. The thing is, I AM trans, and have been transitioned for 11 years. The things they said, they portrayed as absolute fact, when in fact, NONE of it pertained to me.

The feedback was anonymous, so I can't have a dialogue with them.

Side note, I tried to reply in the comments but I had to wait until the comment was approved! Why would MY comment on one of MY stories need to be moderated? That seems silly.

A couple of months ago? The commenter would be delighted to know how that is affecting you even now. I suggest not giving them that satisfaction--just delete it and let it go.

It's not affecting me. I only saw the comment 2 days ago. as I said I only recently came back. It bothers me that I can't have a dialogue with them.

They don't want to have a dialogue with you. That's why they commented anonymously. It tells me they can't win the intellectual argument with you, so they're not worth talking to anyways. Keith is right; delete the comment and move on.

I don't know the specifics, but I agree with KeithD and LadyJS. The chances are, this person doesn't want a dialogue with you. So you're better off not engaging in one. Be good to yourself and just ignore the nonsense. Hold your head high and move forward.

Every comment goes through a spam filter, which is run in batches at prescribed intervals each day.

Your comment isn't being "reviewed for content", it's being batched along with a hundred others to strip out spam links. It's a technical process, nothing more - the site got hit with a massive spam attack several years ago, through comments, and put in place a protection system.

I just want to say thank you for writing stories and posting them on Literotica. I would just ignore the haters and send those comments to file 13. FWIW, I got some "feedback" on mine who thought I should have a boob job with lipo and another classy reader called me "butterface." I had to look that term up. Lol. I guess they prefer fake, cartoon women instead. Oh well.

Well, it is. You initiated a thread about it on the discussion board. Such dialogues don't often go anywhere good. Maybe you dodged a bullet.

IME it's often the bits drawn from real life that readers have the hardest time believing.

Say it ain't so, brothers and sister! Say people ain't so shallow as this twit sounds like he or she is!

Delete the comment and move on with your life. Otherwise you will keep coming across near endless cycles of back and forth arguing, most of which are rarely resolved. You've got better things to do. You can't change their minds, and they probably won't change yours.

For what it's worth, I'm going to head right over and read your stories now :)

Yep, I requested a delete, and to my responses.

You’ll never be able to have a dialogue with them because they’ve hit and run. They’ve had their say, they’re not interested in any response you might want to give, and they won’t come back to your story again because they’ve had their fun. Don’t respond to their comment, just delete it. Do the same with other similar comments.

You have the power, not them. Use it. You have the satisfaction of knowing they’ve wasted their time.

The comments aren't very likely actively moderated. From faithful user perspective all it does is a delay.

It doesn't take any special exception for author's own comments, believably just because that would require a little bit of added complexity, while it may be a fast solution installed on accurate demand.

What that "moderation" system put in place during one heavy storm of spambots seems to be doing, is aggregation of comments over a period of time, so than an automatic script had easier time to recognize spambot patterns and delete comments containing hyperlinks, including slightly malformed to avoid direct and easy automatic recognition.

While there may or may not be an additional dictionary filter, according to some reporting of dissapearing comments, that might also be a separate slow process working on published comments retroactively.

Based on previous commentary on this, I reckon you're right, it's a two-stage filter - the first is the immediate process to strip hyperlinks and spam junk, the second is a slower dictionary based crawl through, going on all the time, looking for key word combinations. Plus, comments can be reported.

I wish there was a way for the author to view the comments that have been omitted. (If there is, please tell me!) I quite like the ones that berate my characters that were designed to be unlikeable.
