Feedback needed for confessions-style stories

Hello,

I would like to get insights and help about how to write diary-style intimate confessions.

What tone of voice to adopt?
How to make it obvious it is an entry to a diary?
What sort of elements to relate?
What balance between emotional description and physical description?

If you are experience in this style of writing, your insights would be most welcome.

My take would be...

Since you can't have the writing its self showing any emotion, the emotion has to come from the person reading it.
You would almost have to put in first person I would think.

Example;

My eyes clouded with tears when as I read on; "Then Dan sneezed in my face."

Maybe not exactly what you were looking for, but you get the idea.
