ha!

So I'm starting a feedback circle, whenever
I get an email feedback, I'll read and give
feedback to 2-3 stories with peoplewho leave
a message on this thread as priority on my reading
list. The intention is for those people to do the
same and this way we might get some useful comments,
to improve our efforts.

And by feed back, I mean about a paragraph, saying
why u liked or disliked the story or any particular
parts you found very good or not so good. One liners,
your story was great or rubbish, don't count for much :)

Do I have any takers?

cactiphile.

Good karma

Everybody loves getting good feedback, and sometimes the best way to get feedback is to give some. There's a new forum on the bulletin board for a Story Discussion Circle, and since the folks posting on this thread seem to be interested in getting more detailed responses, I thought maybe y'all might be interested. Each week a story is picked at random, everyone reads it and then joins in the discussion. I hope you check it out!

Cactiphile,

I think this is an excellent idea. I am going to start doing this immediatly and I think I'll even try to prime the pump a little, so to speak.

Niten <~~~adding Ray to her list of "must reads."

Not only does this help with our own scores, but I am now reading things I might not read ordinarily. So this group is also increasing my horizons, so to speak.

Wheeeeee!

This is great! I've just been reading "Angel on Fire" and cactiphile, you have mail!

Thanks for the feedback so far...
Some good helpful stuff there :)

My reading list expands and I will catch up tommorrow.
8 hours driving today, can barely see let alone read.
Emails will be winging there way very shortly though!

Hi vgrey

Wow, I'm amazed that you read through all 12 chapters! That's commitment!

I gave my "ancient" charactors modern slang because I'm sure that there was equivelent slang "back then." I didn't want to my dialoug to be all stiffly formal in an attempt to sound historical. Besides, it was a lot more fun to write it in our modern venicular.

I really appreciated your insightful comments, and of course I loved the praise. I'm also very happy that you enjoyed my story. Nothing is so encourageing, I think, than to be appreciated.

I'm dealing w/ an illness in my family now, so ypu all please forgive me if I'm a bit slow in my participation of our Feedback Circle.

Regards,
circe!

Hope that all is well in the family

as to the linguistics, I thought that was probably the choice that you had made, in which case, right on! My ancient Greek is a little rusty anyway! (LOL)

As to commitment, I get hooked on stories that explore relationships with power imbalances between well-developed characters and yours certainly qualified. (mortals to gods)

Sateema

You will have mail in a *Very* few seconds. I am impressed.

Sateema Lunasi...

"Adagio" What a hot story!! Excellent reading. I am looking forward to your other stories.

I would love to join this circle. I have posted four stories here over the last couple of months, and the vote numbers and averages have been okay. However, I have had only two pieces of feedback. One on each of two stories. Honest critiques from other writers can only improve (I hope)my own writing.

Please forgive me if it takes me awhile to read and give feedback. Between two jobs, kids, and at least some time for writing, there is only a small amount of time left.
Here is a short cut to the stories.

Sign me up.

Don't you hate how asking for feedback on your stories seems so much like begging for change on the corner? It's unfortunate that it seems to be so hard to acquire.

Here is my profile where my stories can be found. Most of these have been posted before the new scripts were in place so they have not received much exposure in recent months.

Good idea, catiphile.

Cactiphile:

Great idea! Count me in. Hopefully, this will help us become more refined as well as more prolific, and add the bonus of encouraging new people to write.

SpecialK, you are right. I hate shaking my tin cup for votes and feedback. Maybe this'll take off so we won't have to.

Back to work. :)

discussion circle vs feedback circle

Just a thought here, and you can all boo me down if you want, but what about combining this story circle and the discussion group? Include for discussion only those authors who sign up for it, and then basically draw a rabbit out of a hat. The benefit would be that each author has requested to be on the chopping block. You’ll find more active interaction. And I dislike the rule that the author shouldn’t speak until the other’s are done. It’s a message board, not a chat room. It won’t head into tangents unless the entire herd goes with it.
Another benefit. Those of us without a lot of time to write good, complete reviews for each person who sends us a review would be able to concentrate on one a week. Even with my schedule, I could make time for that. If it gets too large, and we end up with the same problem -- a multitude of stories and only one a week won’t get people in -- then make up smaller groups and do one story a week for each group. Everyone deserves to be on that chopping block who puts a story on the site and requests feedback, not just a select few limited by time and mathmatical processes. (Not to criticize the math! It works well for random selection.) It’s just that those of us who come to the board, look at what’s out there, and generally show interest in the writing process should be the one’s to be on the block. Signing up for the discussion group says that they have made a committment, and will contribute.
Now, with all that said, what do you think?
Mick

I like the idea personally. Even if if I go screaming to the chopping block...

I would love more feedback...I need to learn, grow and all that stuff in developing my writing skills.
