I don't know about other writers, but I don't mind getting letters from male or female regarding what he/she might have been doing when reading my stories.

HOWEVER, when you tell me about things you are doing to my bodyparts or are imagining doing to me. Well, in a word.. ick. A line has been crossed somewhere. A line I would like to remain intact.

Ick-ick-ick. I'm going to go take a shower now, with lots of soap.

Interesting point Couture.

I wonder if there is a difference between what male writers feel about this and what female writers feel about this.

I personally (I'm a male writer obviously) don't mind the kind of feedback you are talking about, as long as it's not "weird" (i.e., scat, etc.). Doesn't mean I'm going to try and contact the person and see if we can get something going. LOL. I'd take it for good feedback and move on.

Do other male writers feel this way? What about female writers?

Lit Groupies?

Couture / P.B. Walker;

I wouldn't mind that at all. Knowing that you moved someone enough so they'd fantasize about having sex with you, sight unseen, is pretty cool stuff. Perhaps when I post a few more stories, I’ll get a following, too.

Couture, just take it as praise, don't get creeped out, and don't post your mailing address!

Seriously though, is what they’re doing any different that what we do? We’re in the business of providing vicarious thrills through our characters' experiences. The only difference is that your fans are using their perception of you as a sexual focus. Really, who cares? I’d only worry if the emails get excessive or threatening.

Who knows, maybe one day we'll see some new Lit author post a story in the Celebrities section about you.

Cheers!

I wonder if there is a difference between what male writers feel about this and what female writers feel about this.

As a male writing a lot of female POV, I can only say I've seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bizarre feedback. I'm not sure I want to see the whole iceberg either. Some of it is downright scary.

Now, I suppose it's flattering to make someone 'nearly squirt a wad on the keyboard.' I can deal with that - but when someone I don't know starts to psychoanalyze not only my work but ME, I'd call that over the edge of comfortable.

And how about the married guy wanting to start an email affair from his office? Even creepier, the guy who'd like me to pretend he's my daddy and wants me to yell: "F me daddy!"

I've saved all these, and I'm thinking of writing a short piece about a writer dealing with stuff like this. My wife thinks It could go over well, even though she says anyone can spot that I'm a guy in the first few paragraphs. Maybe she's right, but she's a writer too. Even so, there are always exceptions.

It was signed.

I didn't reply and I think doing so in some cases would likely do more harm than good.

Hotmail has a nifty feature that lets you block emails from certain people. Pretty cool.

yes it does

and that is the way to go. I am surprised that it was signed. Back when I posted porno here I never got a trash email that was signed. But then everyone knew I was a guy and most of them weren't interested in guys. especially if they knew what I looked like.

good luck with the writing
