My team has been sitting at a solid .500 all season (because I keep splitting games each week!) and I've not been able to pull off a trade to upgrade my receiving corps.
But in the last two days, I've pulled off two trades I consider pretty damned good.
Here's what I was trying to address:
1 - My regular WB, Brian GRiese is on a bye week. His string of hot games isn't guaranteed, though. Shanahan's a runnin' kind of coach.
2 - My receiving corps has no clear go-to guy. It's always been a crapshoot about which one is going to have a hot game. I needed to pull a #! guy from somewhere.
3 - My running backs are rock-solid (Rickey Williams, Curtis Martin, Charlie Garner, James Stewart). Garner gives me pause because he tends to wear out at the season goes. Stewart gives me pause because....well..he plays for the Lions! He's no Billy Sims, though he's not bad. And he gets banged up, too.
4 - I play in a keeper league and we can retain three players from our roster who weren't among our first three draft picks int he last two years. I'm scouting for credible young talent.
In the first deal I sent Kerry Collins, Charlie Garner, and Jerome Pathon away in return for Tommy Maddox, Chris Chambers, and Reggie Wayne (a potential keeper).
I then turned around and sent Tommy Maddox (Don't unpack, bud!), James Stewart, and Amani Toomer away and got back Tom Brady (seven games coming against seven pass defenses ranked 26th or lower!!), Eddie George, and David Patten (maybe a keeper? I don't know.).
All in all, I think I took care of some team needs and just maybe I can string together a few wins to climb up out of the middle of the pack!
