Why would anyone travel to Mexico, or for that matter Russia or South Africa?

I saw the rest of the story and it said it could have been mistaken identity.

No one believes it could happen to them. They don’t realize how much of a risk they are taking and Mexico is cheap!

I have relatives there, they live behind high walls and barbed wire and armed guards. Why they continue to live there is a mystery.

From the latest updates, I gather that the group was mistaken for a group of Dominican Republic financiers who were on the outs with the local drug cartel.

Mexico has a reputation for crime and violence. I’ve had all sorts of friends and relatives express their concern that spending time here is a bad idea. Personally, I’m completely comfortable in Mexico City and don’t hesitate to take long walks in the evening. There are good and bad neighborhoods in every city. It’s no different than London, Paris, or New York. What’s interesting to me is the view Mexicans have of the US. I’ve had more than a few people tell me they fear visiting the States because it’s so violent. You could walk into a post office, movie theater, or elementary school and be killed when someone randomly decides to kill thirty people for no particular reason.

They caught one of the men responsible. I don’t know how Mexican justice works, but capturing one cartel member won’t make a difference.
