This isn't meant as a hints and tips thread, but I'm always open to new ideas. ;)

No, seriously, what do you find yourself doing most, by way of procrastination?

Here's my top 5:

1. I need a drink.
2. I need a pee.
3. The dog needs a walk.
4. I *have* to check my email.
5. I haven't done my weights for at least two hours.

The list is endless. With NaNo going on I am finding I'm getting more disciplined, but I still find the odd thing to do now and again as a diversionary tactic. Like posting on message boards. :D

Ok, I'm writing already! :p

ok well I am a mistress of procrastination! (in no particular order)

1) work on english-lady.co.uk. (even if there is nothing that really needs doing..i'l find something "important" if i look long enough)

2) posting at lit on all my regular threads (incredibly important!)

3) email....even my junk mail account in great detail (oooh yes I'd love to improve the size of my penis!)

4) having sex (only an option when baby is asleep)

5) Phoning people...anyone!

6) housework....but only if i am really desperate!

7) nipping to the shop(for that all important bar of chocolate more often than not!)

and i am sure i'll be adding more as i think about it*L*

The internet in general and Lit in particular -- everything else gets put off for as long as possible (except procrastination.)

As I'm staring a Nov. 20 deadline in the face nowadays, I have much more time to think about this issue. :D

- Wandering on the Lit. boards. I'm even going to ones I visit once in a while pretty regularly nowadays.

- Chatting to my friends on the messenger. I just can't seem to stop. :(

- Games. I wonder why I have to play just when I have a deadline.

I can think of just these three right now and it's amazing the kind of time I can waste if I put my mind to it. ;)

The Literotica boards, without a doubt.

And you can just tell: the harsher the deadlines, the more frivolous the posts. 24 hours till taxes are due? The perfect time to start a thread on how much I hate telephone solicitors or on what kind of shoes you wear when you write.

School work. I've been lazy this week, so I'm a little behind. Today, I've tried to make up for all of it. Now I only have one file to send to my professor, and two pics to edit in Photoshop, and then I'm free to do the rest of the list of chores for today - wash the dishes, make te bed, empty the cat's litter box, write 9.000 words for the NaNo...

A little example of my homework:

I shoot people.

No, seriously. I'm a major addict of online badass violence games, mostly CounterStrike. But only in the little leauge, I'm only half good at it.

ps. 100th post. All bow down to my AV. Whee!

B.L. (before Lit.), I used put things off by reading crap (vs. real reading) like mags and newspapers. Then I began surfing the web for news and literary crit. sites. Re-watching AbFab and Buffy episodes was always good for stalling. I have a good bookshop a few blocks away so I go there and browse for an hour or two, then ususally buy a book I know I can't read for a few months. Smoking helps procrastinate too; I like the idea of measured stalling.

Currently struggling through long and lengthy coursework. Favourite procrastination techniques involve distracting my new girlfriend (and thus preventing either of us from doing work) and the internet, which is on 24/7 here and is a huge distraction.

Hi Lin!

My husband is a HUGE CS addict. He asked me to ask you: which servers do you play on, and what is your player name? The amount he plays CS it's pretty likely that you've shot each other at some point. :D

Lou

P.S. Congrats on your 100, I love the AV!

You want Procrastination?! I'll give you Procrastination!
But I don't think you can take it :)

Getting involved in tangential Lit discussions that have multiple posts by the same person saying "this is the last time I will say anything" ;)

I've got a new one:

Eating pistachio nuts. :D

Old, you can keep yours, I've got some of my own.

Lou ;)

I make bread, I do it on automatic pilot, gives me time to think through what I should really be doing. Also acts a positive diversionary tactic as it needs attending to every couple of hours and is the perfect excuse to wander.

Any one want a sandwich?

I have five cats. They are all very needy, but especially so when Ihave something I need to get done. (See, it isn't me, it's them!)

Svenskaflicka that was great which is the freak the dog/cat or old bitty?

Procrastinating with my answer. Well if I wake up late and have a big breakfast it can be almost lunch time before I leave the house. Every one leaves by 4, so do they really need me disturbing them for a couple of hours? Playing on the internet for ten minutes it is soon 5 o' clock they have all gone home why bother? I will just get up early! looking down Playing another round of a "need for speed" the clock ticks past 2am.

Phildo easilly distracted by games and females.

Never put of 'til tomorrow, what you can do today. Because if you do it today, and you like it, you can do it again tomorrow.

Gauche(already in tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow)

Surfing various message boards.

Reading email.

IMing.

Doing really weird household chores. Like today. Sure, my porch furniture really did need cleaning, but...right *then*??

Making lists of things I need to do, then not doing any of the things on the lists.

If there's one thing I'm good at, it's procrastinating!!

Well, my kids take up alot of my time.

Other areas of procrastination are:

1) Lit forums.
2) TFC (Team Fortress) game and community forum.
3) read email
4)chat on MSN messenger

Personally I think it's immoral to breed an animal like that. I feel sorry for all of them. It's just wrong to breed for a characteristic in a cat that would militate against its most basic survival. Cats are supposed to be furry.

I lost Zoey, the cat in my avatar, last week. I went into more detail about it in the general board. She was only 5 years old.

Smoking cigars is wonderful procastination. At home I only do it in the garage and some of them take almost an hour to smoke. Oh yeah, I am usually reading something fictional and drinking something alcoholic. One must multitask one's procrastination.

Hanging out at the coffeeshop ... reading the paper and doing the NYT crossword takes a good hour.

Playing online poker until 3 or 4 am.

Then there's always video games ... popping in the Vice City disc is good for at least five or six hours.

Aaah, I'm a gamer...

Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies or Unreal Tournament for me..

If I'm not doing that, I'm off in some pub somewhere torturing the local populace with my caterwauling...
