My Christmas carol collection is pretty much non existent.
So I am asking for help from my fellow AHers and Litzens in general...
What are your favourite christmas carols? both for you and the kiddies...
I did a search and cannot find a christmas carol thread... So I started one:D
Tell us the name, who by.. Post links... Thanks everyone for your help in advance;)
:rose::kiss::rose:

I have All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
That is what is currently stuck in my head...
Has meaning this year because I am here In Aus and Mac is in England:rose::kiss::heart:

For the best Christmas music--old carols aplenty and a unique, beautiful sound go here:

http://shop.mannheimsteamroller.com

They have 5 CD's out that are absolutely wonderful. The newest one is a dandy! :D

Needless to say I have all 5--lol.

Happy listenin' darlin'.

I happen to love any version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas," though given your situation it might make you cry.

Both are done by Burl Ives, man he has an incredible voice...

Rudolph
Silver and Gold

From the classic claymation of Rudolph done by Rankin and Bass

It wouldn't be Christmas without Elvis singing 'Blue Christmas'.

Oh heck--that might be a weeper too. :(

It will be sad for us not being able to be together...:(
But I am holding on strong to the thought of next year and how different everything will be hopefully...:kiss:
We Will be together in spirit:)
As for my Januaury phone bill......c'est la vie:devil:

My favorite has always been "O Holy Night." If you hear it from a large chorus, forget it. The harmony gives me shivers, and it rates as the only truly religious experience I've ever had listening to otherwise dreary christian hymnal type stuff.

Did you hear the version done by musicians from New Orleans last year? It was featured on the tv show Studio 60 and offered as a free download. It's simply marvelous. Give it a listen:

"O Holy Night"

I'm a sucker for some of the classics. Bobby Darrin's "Auld Langsyne." Ella doing "Sleigh Ride."

But really, I love the take on Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Carol Of The Bells" and their other Christmas tunes.

Here's a teaser.

Yeah, I know, I've posted this link elsewhere, but I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra and simply couldn't resist. ;)

Gonna see them Sunday :D

I'll second the Mannheim Steamroller bid.

That, and I'm singing Mack Wilberg arrangements of "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly" and "How Far Is It to Bethlehem" in a concert tomorrow night that would knock your socks off.

Later: OK the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's arrangment of anything is also terrific.

I really enjoyed that. Thanks very much for a little well-timed holiday cheer, even if (or rather, especially because) it came through the vehicle of the blues. It adds a dash of wabi-sabi to the bright lights and shiny toys.

Canadian Brass - excellent stuff.

They have a few holiday tunes on their website right now.

That made me nostalgic for my favorite performances so I located these -

Their tribute to the ballet - not holiday but funny as hell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4Brr-xTKA0&feature=related

And their classic - The Saints

I've seen them live twice, once in Chicago at the Midwestern Music Educators Convention. *sigh*

Makes me want to practice, even.

Merry Christmas!

:)

Michael Crawford's recording of "O Holy Night" is wonderful. The Chieftain have a very nice CD called "Bells of Dublin" but I'm particularly fond of Paddy Moloney's (one of the Chieftains) "Silent Night: A Christmas in Rome." Gorgeous singing from all over the world.

If you can pick it up, tune into SBS now - Rockwiz is doing its Christmas special - lots of Chrissy stuff.

Sorry to say that I don't know how to do the sound links yet, but here are my favs:

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Bare Naked Ladies with Sarah MacLauchlin (sp?)

"I Wanna Hippopotomous for Christmas" by Gayla Peevey (?)

anything by The Carpenters

Merry Christmas!!
:rose:
