I have been wondering latly what is everyones favorite book series.

Mine is the Dune series. Dune, Dune Missiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Hertics of Dune, and Chapter House Dune, by Frank Herbert.
And then two of of the 3 preluges, Dune: House Atriedes and Dune: House Harkonnen, by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. I don't have the 3rd preluge, Dune: House Corrino. I don't think its even published yet. But I want to get it.

Feel free to share you thoughts, and tell us your favourite book series too :)

Mine would have to be a toss-up between the Dark Elf Trilogy and the Incarnations of Immortality series. It's been eons since I've read either, but soon I'll remedy that situation. :)

dark elf

is that part of the 10 town forgotten relms series????? with drist d'orin? i know spelling but !!!! cant find book now to get right one.

Read lots myself just got in to wilbur smith, some of his books get quite hot. Had to stop reading on way to workand at work... got far to embarasing lol.....

two trilogys i been reading recently that were quite good fantacy ones were "the Farseer Trilogy" By Robin Hobb and Books about Recluce by L.E. Modesitt, Jr

Robert Jordan is quite good too, if you can get all of them....theres about 8 in the series so far... could be more i have problems keeping up with it he he.

Any other suggestions from others? Always lookingfor new authors to read.

I really like the series of books that Diana Gabaldon is currently writing, so far she have written 4 books, and the 5th in the series of totally 6 are supposed to be out on november 6th.

The titles are:

Outlander
Dragonfly In Amber
Voyager
Drums Of Autum
The Fiery Cross (out in November)

I also like the series off book that Tom Clancy have written about Jack Ryan a lot

Tom Clancy

His netforce books are ok as well........
interesting stories dont take long to read though.

Try Tad Williams and "Otherland" trilogy very good VR based stories. They do make you not want to put the book down... Takes a while to get into at first though.

I've enjoyed so many...

but the series that sticks in my mind, maybe it's because it's the most recent, is the "Nome" series by Terry Pratchett.

Three non-Discworld books I think they're aimed at children but the inventiveness of the plot and the pure comedy that runs throught the series can easily be enjoyed by adults.

Truckers (1989)
"To the thousands of tiny nomes living under the floorboards of a large department store, there is no Outside. No Day or Night, no Sun or Rain. They're just daft old legends. Until the devastating news that the Store is to be demolished. Now the nomes have to think. And they have to think BIG..."

Diggers (1990)
"A Bright New Dawn is just around the corner for the nomes when they move into an abondened quarry. Or is it? For when humans turn up, they begin to mess everything up again. Now the nomes have two choices: to run or to hide. Or, maybe they could... fight. But for how long can they keep the humans at bay - even with the help of the monster Jekub?"

Wings (1990)
"It's a ridiculous plan. Impossible. To hitch a ride on a truck with wings - Concorde. And then steal one of those space shuttle things. But home is home, and the nomes want to get there. They don't mean to cause any trouble. Really..."

Celtlan- Drizzt Do'Urden

The Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series is very intriguing, but also very involved.

I also like the Dragonlance Chronicles (as well as the million books the series spawned) and the series of books set in the Forgotten Realms.

forgotten realms, dragonlance

even got AD&D rule books for role playing all that lol. And the books well they have their own book shelf .... along with all and anything star wars like the "new Jedi order" series.

a must for any Star Wars fans

Likewise, although I have been searching for the original Dragonlance "Tales of the Lance" boxed set for some time, as they aren't planning on 'updating' the Dragonlance series to 3rd Edition.
And that above post was me, not logged in *grumble*

Honor Harrington -- Hands down

The Honor Harrington Series by David Weber is hands down the best "Space Opera" series in existence -- the incentive for the only fan letter I've ever written an author in 40+ years of extensive reading.

The Wheel Of Time Series by Robert Jordan is currently at nine volumes of an originally planned ten volumes, although I have no idea how he's going to wrap up all of the looses ends in one more volume. I suspect that the series will eventually end somewhere around volume 15 or so. (Volume nine _Winter's Heart_ is only available in hardbound, but should be available in paperback by Christmas time.)

The Belgariad/Mallorean series by David Eddings is a much better epic fantasy series that the _Wheel of Time_ is and it's completed so you don't have to wait forever for the next volume to come out.

The Elenium/Tamuli series by David Eddings is also a very good pair of Epic fantasy series.

The Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey is another series I'm on a constant watch for new pieces.

The Miles Vorkisigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold are another "Space Opera" series with a much lighter touch than the Honor Harrington books -- more humor and less combat.

Still, I'd have to say that my favorite series of the hundred or so I've like well enouh to buy in paperback to reread every so often, is the Honor Harrington series.

for different reasons:

the ender series

the dark elf trilogy (drizzit do'urden is the coolest)

incarnations of immortality

How about Harry Harrison's "West Of Eden" trilogy? Awesome!

Diana Gabaldon's time travel series is pretty good too.

and finally, Orson Scott Card's Ender Books... "Ender's Game", "Speaker For The Dead", etc.

The Keeper Series by Tanya Huff and The Lord Of the Rings. The Pern series is also dear to my heart, but there are so many that I love, including the Harry Potter series, that I could never list them all in one post.

Oh... thanks LadyDarkFire for mentioning the Harry Potter Series. I read the first book to my niece, fell in love with it and ordered the whole series on audio, and then listened to them as I commuted to work each day!

I'm just a 38 year old little girl I guess!

Can't wait for the movie to come out on November 16th. I promised to take my niece you understand. I don't really care to see it or anything! But I do want my on Nimbus 2000 broom!

Anyone for Quidditch?

I've read a lot of these...

Orson Scott Card's Ender series is definitely cool--

I love Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and I'm on book 8, but it's been too long since I've read book 7...and right now, I'm about as lost as a goose...

I dearly love George RR Martin's Game of Thrones series. The man is awesome, even if he's made us wait between books.

I think one of the best series I have ever read is the necroscope series by Brian Lumly(sp?) although I havnt read all of them yet. it started as a trilogy went to 5 books that i read and then i forgot about i for a while now theres about 15 books in the series. so I need to catch up. but the ones I read were great.

For me personally I would have to say The Wheel of Time series, that one really pulls you in. Any Forgotten Realms book, that is a good series of stories and any Star Wars book, it is good to see what they are getting up to after Return of the Jedi.

Personaly, even though I love star Wars. I don't like the novals. Why? Because it isn't writen by Geogie.

I know the 3 preludes to Dune aren't writen by Frank. But they are writen by rian, his son who had alot of 'brain-storming ideas' with Frank. Even Frank and Brian were going to write a Dune book after the "Dune Chapter House" series.

I used to love Star Wars, but no as much after reading Dune again. The Dune universe is so much larger then Star Wars.

Shyguy, really? You wouldn't be messing with my mind, now, would you? ;)

I really like John Sandford's Prey series. And of course, Sue Grafton's "alphabet" series. Also, Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta books.

Ok I'm totally clueless here April!! What are you referring too?

And no I'm not messing with your mind, I would rather mess with other parts of you, so if you get to Denmark now that you're in Germany, let me know! ;)

Diana Gabaldon. That's what I was referring to. Silly thing.

Now let me get this straight. You are promising to molest me if I should step foot in Denmark? Hmm...;)

yes I read Diana Gabaldon, and yes a new book is on the way!

As to molest you if you come to Denmark, well only if you want me to! :D:D

It's a tossup...

WEB Griffin's Brotherhood of War series

or

CJ Cherryh's Chanur Series.

*sighs* Can I pick both?

I think that anyone who has had any truck with the military would appreciate the Brotherhood of War like ya wouldn't believe. Particularly if you were Army. He's got a series out that features marines, but I haven't gotten to read it yet.

But CJ Cherryh's is such a masterpiece...
