If someone makes one of your stories their favorite, should you send them a "Thank you" message?

In my experience, many readers don't enable PMs. I've had this with commenters that I've tried to contact via PM. Just smile and keep writing.

Yeah I don't/wouldn't. If only because I'm still not sure what is actually a "Favorite" and what is on a Reading List. Sometimes I'll drop into the person's Favorite list to see what else is there (AKA If they like my stuff maybe I'll like what else they like.) Often times my story isn't there and that's when I assume (For my fragile ego) that it was actually put onto a Reading List and not that they favorited my story on accident and then took it back.

The site seems to have different areas or sections. Changes (such as red Hs) announced on one part often take a while to be reflected in another.

A lot of Favourites seem to be used as 'to-read' bookmarks rather than actual faves - I got a few dozen within an hour of my last story going up, and no way had that many people read it in the time!

So it's a nice marker that someone thinks from a quick glance that your story will be worth reading, but not much more.

I do send messages to nice commenters, though most are anon - sometimes I reply in the comments, simply because there is a small window on the front page of Lit on a computer that shows recent comments on stories (maybe in that category?), and I've occasionally clicked through to a good story. So if there's definitely a recent comment that could attract more readers.

Your Control Panel updates in real time, whereas everywhere else has a lag of one server cycle or another.

I don't think you should when someone "favorites" your story.

Now if someone takes the time to email or drop a message, then HELL YES, you should reply.

That's just my opinion though.

I don't do it, but I think that thanking Followers would mean more.

These are readers who have expressed an interest in you work and desire notifications on your activity. IMO, it denotes a more loyal reader than someone who favorites one or more of my stories.

Readers don't want to be distributed. If they have something important to say, they’ll leave a detailed comment or send you a PM.
Some have a list of thousands of favorites. You are not that special.
I assume that you meant to say "disturbed" and not distributed.

Either way, the OP was inquiring about extending a courtesy, something that is far too rare in society today.

While I think that the particular sentiment he mentioned isn't necessarily appropriate for Literotica authors/readers, I admire the thought of someone searching for ways for all of us to be nicer to each other.

In fact, I think that his question does make him "special".

Thing is a lot of readers set up a toss away e-mail for lit because they don't want to be getting lit messages at one they use all the time, especially of they're here on the down low. Meaning odds are they won't see it anyway
